I could not find much there except for post #199 that the loco is still there (@18/8/12) but the owner had been asked to move it

Funny i just read that the driving wheels were found in a hanger belonging to a scrap merchant but the rest of the locomotive is nowhere to be seen.
    Strange i found it okay.

I thought that was reported in the railway press months ago?
It would be interesting to know just what parts have been found (and moved to safety) and what parts are still AWOL, but unless the owner issues a statement to clarify the situation I suppose we'll just have to keep guessing. I certainly wouldn't advocate tramping around industrial sites looking for it.

I was surprised to see the parts of the locomotive when i went to Binbrook i was doing a tour of disused Airfields in Lincolnshire at the time and Binbrook Airfield is not the easiest place to get to, the Airfield is up a steep hill away from Binbrook village, there are no A only B roads that surround the Airfield, I cant see the locomotive being taken there in one piece and why there, its miles from anywhere, i wondered if it might have ended up at the up and coming Lincolnshire Wolds Railway near Louth, but unless the other parts can be found its a dead duck.

It must have been a struggle for the haulage contractors vehicles getting up the hill to the Airfield they must have used two or more traction units i would have thought.

I'm sure a swift look with your preferred search engine would give you some answers, but to give you a start, I think that 35011 was stored there at one time...

Sorry to drag up an old topic, but have there been any developments since Steam Railway reported the scrapping of the boiler earlier in the year? I.e. have the driving wheels been moved to the same safe location as the frames? Many thanks.

Recent reports on RMWeb suggest that there are still a set of wheels for all to see at Binbrook... So no, and the slow death of this Crab drags on.

Can't be too negative the owner has mainline plans someday for it.

The frames are half full, not half empty.

So, what's the latest? The boiler was scrapped I believe but, the wheels and frames survive? Missing parts, even big parts, are no longer insurmountable of course. Whole new engines are being created and boilers have been constructed.

I believe the only surviving parts are the wheels and some motion parts. And thats it so i have been told.

I dont know where you will find someone with big enough pockets to start this newbuild, which it basically is now. Some motion is compatible with a fowler 2-6-4 tank.
Such a great shame that this has happened as it would have been a great engine somewhere in working order.
