Judging by recent events, they wait for something to set light to the lineside then ban everything until the next rainy season. A few (quick) thunderstorms aren't going to make any great effect. It needs a few days of rain.

Sorry everyone. It's the summer. The weather is good so solo steam is off the menu. Get over it and enjoy the decent weather. My next steam trip is not planned till late August. (By the way, try living in Oz and finding any guaranteed steam in their summer - it's the same issue.)

Ah your forgetting the seasons of steam...

Spring steam ban due to late running engineering works
Summer steam ban due to lack of rain
Autumn steam ban due to leaf fall
Winter steam ban due to wrong type of snow

    There's always a reason for a diesel.

Add in a sprinkling of Unionsist action to fill in the gaps and watch the coal turn to dust.

Eh? Why do you think 5943 is special case? Would they not be using it on the Shakespeare Express tomorrow if it was?

Clan line was converted to a tender drive motor years ago.

More steam comes out of its tender than its chimney :)

I thought that was condensed cold air from the footplate crews champagne chiller? The only mob I know who eat canapés off the stirling silver shovel.

And it's clever how they can still make the driving wheels slip just like in the good ol' days.

Surely the obvious solution to the surplus of unrestored MNs is to convert some to steam outline diesels to be used during fire risk season.
    Joking.

Quite agree and MNs with steel boxes might be good converts. Still requires money in vast quantities as well as derogation for the mods though.
