It is due to be officially launched at the autumn gala. However, 34092 may well see use on passenger trains before then.

Its quite nice to see the old BR overhead wire flashes in a prominent place again. However, I expect that should 34092 go mainline, they will have to be replaced with the modern yellow triangle versions. Also looks as though you could eat your dinner off that cowling!

The only thing that's bugging me is whether the loco, considering it now sports a high-sided tender and early BR livery, should be fitted with the air-smoothed casing ahead of the cylinders and curving around to the buffer-beam. However, as it has the AWS battery box, it probably shouldn't. Not entirely sure what 34092 looked like in the 1950s, but some unrebuilts retained the forward casing for a fair while.

All rather moot considering she's carrying a Giesl ejector - definitely not a BR era fitment as far as she's concerned.

Not really. '64 had the narrower cab and the matching smaller capacity tender.

My point was that if the OP was worried about whether it should carry the front fairings or not, the presence of the Giesl ejector - conspicuous or not - made it a bit of a moot point.

I am not going to argue the Authenticities of the accoutrements of spam-cans with the experts, but i too appreciate the curved bit of casing in front of the cylinders that BP alluded to as well
There was a Maroon Mark II in Howarth yard on Saturday... Somebodies support Coach ?

I was talking to one of the restorers last October, and it seemed that there was a section who wanted to return the exhaust arrangements to original configuration. Either way, even given AWS and Giesl ejector, the casing ahead of the cylinders, if fitted to 34092 in early BR condition, would certainly have finished the job to the best they could achieve in these circumstances, although it would mean that getting at the cylinders for routine maintenance would be a pain.

I used to see 34092 in Kent almost daily in the mid 50's and she had the casing ahead of the cylinders removed quite early on. Looking at her front end on today the only difference is the AWS battery box that was not visible in those days. By 1958 Stewarts Lane had started painting the motion slidebar behind the cylinders red on Loco's that were used for the Golden Arrow service. 34091 and 34092 retained this oddity until late 1960.

There seems to have been a systematic and sensitive "bringing back" of CoW including the management of information (and expectations!). This all does give you a certain confidence that once she is finally let loose things will go to plan. On the ejector point, I can see that some would wish her to be returned to the original exhaust arrangements but all the evidence suggests that it was an improvement without visually detracting from the key characteristics of the loco. Common sense seems to have prevailed on that point and I'm guessing that crews will also appreciate the better forward view.

Could be 45305's. All the HLPG Locos seem to run with Mk 2 support vehicles.
