I like the idea of a National Preservation sponsored project BUT choosing it could be difficult. I can see there being a long and inconclusive debate about that. Anyway the Sellinge MNs seem very poor candidates, given the number of other MNs around.

Maybe best to start another thread on the possibility of a Nat Pres loco. That would give an idea of the level of support and likely financial input. Whilst they are fine machines would a MN be the best choice?

That's a good idea, a seperate thread! A MN would be a challenge to say the least - maybe we should start smaller, or sponsor something complete that is out-of-ticket ?

An interesting thought. At 11k+ registered members, a say £20 donation by everyone would generate a quarter of a million pounds. It sounds easy but you try getting £11k people to agree to do the same thing, especially steam enthusiasts.

Getting the money would be the easy bit. Deciding the livery would be the headache.

Has anybody here got any recent news regarding 35009 as it's been a few years now and Riley still hasnt done any work on the engine. If money was no object id purchase her off Riley for restoration. Why doesn't someone or a group of people start up a society to purchase 35009 and restore her for mainline use.

If your serious the first step would be to contact Ian Riley.

There's a post on another thread suggesting Ian Riley's started work on it. I don't know if there's any truth to it, although I sincerely hope so. I'd also hope it stays there than goes anywhere else, as Riley's will doubtless do a superb job and relatively quickly. The fact it's my nearest line and I'm very lazy has nothing to do with it.

What's stopping you? Why are you waiting for someone else to do something when you obviously feel so strongly about it?
And as @Springs Branch said above, a little respect for Mr Riley wouldn't go amiss...

Perhaps @Ian Riley could supply an update?
