Just posted on the official Clan Line Twitter account:

"FTR passed. Unfortunately we will have a Diesel tucked in behind the loco tomorrow because of the dry weather."

    I like MNLPS's sincerity.

Well, having the diesel just behind Clan Line:-

    1. Makes me happy that it is a more realistic railway scene.

    2. Gives any cinders more of a chance of blowing away rather than landing in someone's champagne in the front Pullman car.

    3. And on the negative side, still stops the latest West Byfleet flammable grass test from taking place. ;)

Given today's rain here in soft Surrey, you would be hard put to start a line side fire.

Yes raining here as well. One assumes that this is just a general command from NR for the London area and north to the border? Or does it apply to the west and Anglia where there has been a lot of rain? If so why?

Going by the latest reports todays rain has been confined to the South East and some of the South coast. Still wall to wall blue here.

The amount of rain here in mid Kent, even if concentrated on just one person would not make for an exciting wet T shirt competition.

Ironically, ALL of Clan Lines route tomorrow has taken a complete downpour today, massive stormed passed over - the ground is soaked, localised flooding.

We had an epic storm this afternoon in Surrey & Hampshire: lots of rain, wind, thunder and lightening. However, it's dried out pretty quickly and it's bloody hot again now. It will take a lot more than what we had this afternoon to change NR's mind. Did consider going out to see 35028 tomorrow but won't bother now.

Well it hit Guildford, Dorking, Reigate, West and South London. It was almost as if it had sat nav co-ordinates of the route.

Ok, very well KIP (Knowwun Independent Productions) has this very morning developed and devised S.H.I.T.E. (Steam Loco, H20, Inflammability, Test, Environment). Filming will commence today, and the finished results will be available in this very discussion thread some time this evening.

Never mind. Look on the bright side. If things turn out as suggested I can already see the headline writers of the Mail Online slipping into their usual high quality accurate reporting. Someone's just sent me an early draft:

    Steam Saves the Day

The prestige Belmond Pullman needed rescuing by a steam engine today. Belmond run upmarket dining trains to various destinations around the country but today's lunch trip through Surrey had an unexpected twist. Our photographer caught a shot of it running through the Surrey Hills with 35028 Clan Line towing the diesel and pullmans. Someone on board said that the steam engine was needed as the passengers on a previous trip had complained that with the open windows in the hot weather the diesel fumes were putting them off enjoying their canapes. A passenger said that the smell of steam was a nice change from oily fumes and went very well with their steamed fish and tarragon butter. A steam volunteer on the train said that they were pleased to help out and hoped it might become a regular feature with their engine possibly 'going solo' in the future.

Just captured a unique moment. The British Pullman has three locos - topped with steam/ diesel and towing dead diesel Plus tornado passing at the same rime

Strewth, not only the test due from West Byfeet, but you've had a tornado there today as well!

    THE place for UK weather.
