    Meanwhile back on the 9F.

Has the boiler been done ?, comparing the pictures of 2003 to now, that boiler looks fairly complete, piping up is on going, cab fittings in progress...

It's not a Barry wreck boiler seen in the past, the bottom end is looking pretty much on the final road too... If the loco's not far off maybe they could borrow a tender from another.. (92240 comes to mind).

Could this be a tender for the locomotive being constructed several years ago (not my photo)?

I understand those were 70000's tender frames. Also, 92134 doesn't seem to have an ashpan in those videos, so I'd hazard a guess that's it's not ready yet

Yes, we agree that the Duke is a sad sight these days: it is showing all the effects of eight years’ hard work on the mainline, plus two years standing in the open while we sorted out the organisation. But now we have the new organisation in place! We have, in L&NWR Heritage Ltd, a superb partner who can handle the engineering. We know we can do it: we have the capability to overhaul the Duke and return it to the state in which we all want to see it - looking like it did in April 1954 and effortlessly hauling trains on the main line once more! Everyone who helps, by becoming a Trust Member, will get the pleasure of seeing their contributions put this unique Locomotive back on track. Please join us to return the final development of UK steam to its rightful place, working express trains for the enjoyment of everyone.

Confirmed by the owner son on Facebook, Chassis pretty much complete and that it's mainly the boiler requiring work.
Best of luck to them, hopefully it wont take too long.

Well yes, obviously not having one she will require a new build but the impression I'm getting is they may look at hiring one first.

Wonder if they'll look at 71000's? That did belong to 92134 once, afterall

Why is there always this thing about building tenders when there are almost always operational tenders in storage, taking up siding space, all the rest of it? Surely better to hire one in and save the capital for something vital?

Will make a nice change to hear a single chimney 9F at work.

Where are you going to find a BR1H tender just lying around waiting to be used? No need for anything bigger for preserved railways.

I'd consider the fuel tank a pretty vital thing on any machine. Problem with hiring tenders is that the owner might not want to loan it out, or if his loco needs it again and you haven't got another one to hire, your loco is in a right pickle if the boiler clock is still ticking

I don't think there are that many suitable tenders out there anyway, are there? Even fewer of them ready to run

92134 was paired with BR1C tender No 1344.

Well off the top of my head I would think that the following suitable BR Standard tenders are not being used today:

71000 BR1C converted (Tender that went with 92134 to Barry)
73096 BR1G Style soon to be ex MHR
    73082 BR1B on the Bluebell
    75069 BR1B on SVR
    75078 BR1B on the KWVR
    92240 BR1C on the Bluebell

Whether or not any of these tenders would be available for lease when 92134 is ready for action I do not know.

The tender behind 73082 is likely to be back in use within a year, so certainly wouldn't be available.

    And that behind 75078.
