    Thanks for the thanks.
But there are a number of bodies on here that all post updates especially 80135, 60044 and 47406.
    Thanks to them as well.

I feel that plenty of comments get made about Locos and to a lesser extent the rolling stock.
But in general the Civils work gets hardly a mention or just glossed over.
Notable exceptions recently being the Bluebell and some news on the SVR.

It would never been done this season they said

I'm pleased that all those that doubted the scheme would ever be completed are now eating humble pie

Yes, I've already cut myself a slice, as after the false dawns of Easter, June & beginning of August I began to have doubts as well

Well done & thank you to all involved in the project

Now let's see the extra trains fill.

Do look at 47406's links as Mr T's website does a grand job translating the NYMR brain numbing timetable into what a basher understands! There seems slightly more steam than perhaps suggested by NYMR. I remain not exactly jumping for joy as my interests are the climbs out of Grosmont or Levisham and less so Whitby. so the new TT isn't that good alas.

Pity the last days of the old Gold TT haven't been brilliant. I think one day last week was 100% steam (ignoring Whitby) but otherwise it is do your best to avoid 37264. Alas it seems to work the trains that connect with other public transport in/out of Pickering or Grosmont. And as I write now there isn't clarity which diagram it will work today, so not sure where I aim for! But hey! It was like this in the mid-1960s at Preston, before mobiles and Internet - I don't know how we ever got any steam in the bag back then!

Does anybody know whether the the practice of top'n tailing the Grosmont - Whitby section of the timetable will continue up to the advertised commencement of version B of the timetable on Saturday 16th August ?

Some of us share that view, which is why we are so happy when it does get covered!

There's lots of exciting stuff happening on the pway side at a number of places, but alas some of them are still in the paperwork stage (e.g. reconnection of the KESR, bridging the gap at the GCR), and for a variety of reasons (e.g. confidentiality while negotiations happen) those can't get much coverage, but hopefully soon they'll be out in the daylight along with the other exciting projects (such as yours, the GWR's, etc).

It will certainly be continuing until the end of this week. It has been suggested it might continue for a couple of days when Platform 2 first comes into use while crews get use to the access Ground Frame and associated arrangements before having to run round during the time at Whitby as well. Sunday timetables were top and tail due to some tighter margins between NYMR and Northern trains even when Bog Hall Sidings were still in use, so I suspect next Monday could be the first solo day but that is guesswork on my behalf.

Gossip today certainly suggests top & tail next week to platform 2, but treat with great caution. I was hoping to get the last (?) all steam run to platform 1 tonight but 45428 failed! So it was D7628 as usual, which returned alone leaving 61264 at Whitby to play with the new track. As I supped my beer in Grosmont watching the last Whitby - Pickering, D7628 off and 37264 on, I did ponder this isn't quite why I am here! Still 61264 out of Levisham earlier was superb.

37624 gave me a spare 90 minutes at Pickering so I visited the WW I exhibition on platform 2. Excellent, very moving. There are brief biographies of the young men killed in action who came from the villages around Pickering, and more. To read about a young, married with kids, platelayer from just up the road, meant a whole lot more to me than the media headlines today.

Plan A at the moment is that running int Pl2 will start on Monday, which will eliminate top'n'tail but it is a question of watch this space

After a short delay against expectation, the 13:35 booked arrival (its time keeping was slightly dyslexic!) became the first passenger train to use the new Platform as an arrival and the slightly delayed 14:00 the first passenger departure. B1 61034 (61264) did the honours, and became what I believe is the first ever locomotive of any method of propulsion to run round a passenger train in Whitby Station.

The new platform was well tested as both arrival and departure were loaded to over 400 passengers.

The extended service, increasing trains to and from Whitby from 3 to 5 per day, commences this coming Saturday under present plans.

My turn on Friday (and Monday). If you're around, come and say hello.
Note the 'Whitby' running in board in N.E. tangerine. About the only concession to the requirements of a Network Rail 21st C station platform. We couldn't have Whitby Town, though.:(

Hopfully I'll get my new track on the 14:00 Monday. Only worry I have now is the tightness of resources. The new TT needs two Whitby locos and all there is currently is 61264 and 45428 (if repaired by then). So I wonder if Whitby has not yet seen the last of D7628? Certainly the two 4-6-0s cannot go on forever.

According to the railway's website, the T2 (I prefer the old money) is back in traffic today.

45428 is currently on wash-out, with a planned return for the extended timetable on Saturday.

Other loco news not referred to on here yet (I think) is that 30926 has been dismantled, with the boiler lifted last week, for assessment prior to letting the contract for overhaul.

At the other end of the process, 76079's boiler was put back on a few weeks ago and the loco is undergoing final reassembly prior to imminent return to traffic.

Very well done to all concerned with the Whitby project.
Steve, yes the tangerene sign looks great, I'm very glad that someone dug their heals in to get it put there.
Hopefully I'll get to test the new platform before too long, be it at a gala or on a day out to Whitby next month.
