It makes me wonder how many others shall/shall not be able to fit on this line?

Bit late to the party on this thread but will the Pannier Rambler leave late enough from Tyseley to ensure a connection with those travelling from the south? I believe people were able to connect off the first train from Marylebone the last time this tour ran were they not? Would be a great help if this was to happen again.

more stuff just been posted on Scarborough Flyer thread regarding gauging on both Standedge & Calder Valley route

Latest news - as posted on the Lensmen linesiders forum is that Scots, Duchesses and A4s are all now banned from BOTH the Standedge AND the Calder Valley routes, both presumably due to gauging issues.
Largest loco now permitted is a Jubilee.
On the Standedge line, the problem appears to relate specifically to trackwork on a curve under a bridge in the Mossley area ... which is stated to have "moved".

so is Trans Pennine Streak tour 1st Nov ok?

I am waiting the outcome of this gauging situation on this route, before I book a compartment for this tour. Could 5043 fit the route ?

I.e. is a Castle more gauge-friendly than a Royal Scot? Highly unlikely! Your best hope for a class 7+ that fits is a West Country or perhaps a Britannia.

Booked the Panniers and looking to book 5043 around the Cumbrian Coast later in the year, can I ask Ben, what do you rate the chances of getting a path via Selly Oak ?.

Ben, will need some clarification on the gauging issues on the Standedge and Calder Valley route. As we are looking to book a compartment pretty soon, and from what has been stated on here, many locos seem out of gauge.

In this instance if it is height related a castle will be more gauge friendly than a scot........
The scot is probably banned because of the front firebox top corners, which like a Duchess are slightly outside of the W6 load gauge....

Can you confirm if the Pannier Ramble has now moved dates? 8th might actually work better for me...

The 8th of November is what it says on the Vintage Trains website

Sorry about having to move the date forwards. We found out that there is planned track work on the desired route just as the brochure started arriving on peoples door-mats!

Panniers are running on 8th November.

Time to do some more booking for October. As usual there are annoying clashes. What's the load going to be for Bittern on the Lickey?

It's not going to be an extreme load due to the length of the platform at Didcot (where we attach 4464 + Support).
