Vera isn't doing the Atlantic crossing in one hop though, she's doing it in two - or maybe three if they decide to call in at Greenland en route to KEF.

Just out of interest, would this have been the route taken when delivery flights were taken from canada to the uk it would be something special if she was using the same route some 69 years after the war finished

Suspect flying via Newfoundland and Iceland and then into Lincolnshire. No reason to fly through Europe from Canada....study a map.

Answer to that is no, she is running on the tanks fitted in 1945, hence the stop offs to refuel and make sure she has not got a problem.
From info via ex British aerospace employees based at Woodford and Chadd.

thanks for that, had my dad still been here i could have asked him, he knew exactly how far a lanc could go it was his job to, running out of fuel half way back from Dresden wouldnt have won him many friends if he got his navigation wrong :) anyway back to VRA, she's due to depart Goose Bay 10.00 local time arrival in Iceland about 5 1/2 hours later

On her way to Keflavik direct. Quoting a 7.5 hours journey time, less 20 minutes for every 10kts of tail wind.

Flight plan is Prestwick next leg and then Coningsby on Friday. One hell of a welcoming committee being organised for her. Fingers crossed the weather doesn't intervene.
