7 hours 40 mins in the air, thats some time to spend in a very basic old airframe ,lanc's are not known for creature comforts so today, assuming the crew are ok to fly, not to knackered :) how long is it likily to take to do this leg to Preswick is it as far as the previous leg:eek: bet they will sleep well once she is hangered up at Coningsby ,

According to a website I've just checked, the air distance is c.850 miles. Given that she's been cruising at just over 200 mph, that's just over four hours.

Looking at the Twitter feed, shes going sightseeing this morning, any idea anyone when she's going to start the Prestwick leg, or is it going to be tomorrow, with a short stop over, to refuel, then off to Coningsby

Martin. The flight plan as previously posted remains the same. Prestwick today, on to Coningsby Friday. Usual caveats apply.

She is attracting the crowds even on the layover stops. Found these two videos on YT:

And she was escorted from Canada by a Mitchell:

Coningsby us set to be chaos tomorrow. 2500 parking spaces have been arranged with local landowners but one report says 40,000 are expected. Think there will be a lot of disappointed people at that rate.

I did consider going up tomorrow, but the forecast isn't good. I'll have to make do with a guided tour next Wednesday instead. Plus at least half a dozen air shows over the next few weeks :)

i'm hoping it will make national news , after all, 2 lancs 2 spitfires,( is the huricane us) isnt a everyday thing, plus the Red Arrows i assume the flight plan will tell them roughly when to expect the escort ,

I'd be very surprised if there is any kind of formal escort. Flying anything (especially 9 Hawks!) is staggeringly expensive, and as for the BBMF, the Canadians are due a few days of training and familiarisation in formation and display flying, so they are hardly likely to get a close escort from the BBMF beforehand. I'm sure that they (the Canadians) are perfectly competent to find Conibgsby unassisted. Leave the formation stuff for air shows when people are actually paying hard cash to see it!

Prepare to be surprised then. I've seen the NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for her arrival. She will be escorted in by the BBMF Lancaster and two of their fighters from Kirton in Lindsey, over Lincoln, RAF Waddington, RAFC Cranwell and into RAF Coningsby. The Reds are due to fly down to Bournemouth for this weekend's airshow and will be part of the arrival celebrations en route. The plans is for Reds 1 to 9 to be stacked up at 1300 ft (500 ft above the bombers and fighters) with Red 10 at 1800 ft over Lincoln and Waddington. After Waddington the Reds peel off and then do a Maple Leaf salute at RAF Coningsby as she lands. After that they buzz off to Bournemouth.

Further to my above post, it is inconceivable that the first transatlantic crossing by a Lancaster since I don't know when wouldn't be afforded an airborne guard of honour. It's the least the crew deserves for theirs is an epic achievement.

I'll prepare to be surprised then! I'm certainly not doubting the magnitude of the achievement of getting here.

Just seen a pic of the noticeboard in the final briefing for Coningsby arrival. It looks a tad complicated.

I'm confused...which isn't difficult....where is the Lancaster now? Is it in Iceland ready to fly to Lincs via Prestwick, or flying direct?
