You have to cast your mind back to WW2 when our young airmen were setting out on air raids, probably very apprehensive, and many never came back........

My father was one of those, he was very lucky, on one op he got injured ended up in the hospital, whilst he was recovering his crew were lost , he never spoke about it till the very end of his life so thank you i dont need reminding of the young airmen all no more than 19-21 who fell, my dad lost several very close friends

Due to the weather, the welcome committee had to be cancled, and the BBMF stayed on the ground, the flypasts were cancled and Vera fly direct to Coningsby landing a few minutes ago, but at least shes down safe and well.

Yep. All the way to Waddington and back for nothing but at least she arrived safely. Well done to all concerned.

BBC coverage of the landing here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-28703745

Looks like it was absolutely persisting down ...

Talk about moaning minnies! The first vox pop saying how poor it was that they couldn't fly both together, when there are, apparently, 60 public events with both together!

And (image from the BBC, on the same page), the money shot:

Now all "we" need is to get Just Jane from East Kirby [Lincolnshire Air Museum] airworthy and there'd be a "flight" of airworthy Lancasters'. 3 from memory constituting a flight at least for the RAF at the time.

I was at Waddington awaiting the flyby. The rainstorm that caused the BBMF to stay grounded and Vera to divert from her booked route hit us a short while after Coningsby. It was torrential and nobody in their right mind would have flown through it when plan B was available to avoid it. It was a shame that the welcoming flypast was scrubbed but safety has to be paramount and the correct decisions were made. Anyone complaining about it needs a reality check.

Whole heartedly agree with Spamcans posting, safety has to come first at all times, what was most important was to get vera down onto ferra firma in one piece as soon as possible i wonder what the crew made of it, "Flipping heck, they were right back in Hamilton it does alway rain in the UK" :) and i wonder what they made of the noisy neabours next door

So where are people planning to go to see?

I got tickets for Shoreham yesterday for myself and my father. "It's something we have to see", I said. "It's something you have to see", he replied, "I've seen hundreds of 'em". No answer to that! But I think he is looking forward to it all the same :)

Going to Dunsfold Wings & Wheels on 23rd August. They have a great line-up* anyway but the 2 Lancs will be unmissable (weather permitting!)

Eastbourne, Waddington, Little Gransden, Shoreham, East Kirkby (twice) and Duxford if they can reach agreement. Hoping to squeeze in a Coningsby hangar tour too.

You might be able to get your car in. Chris Evans now holds his expensive Carfest event at Laverstock on the same weekend which has taken a lot of the cars that used to go the Dunsfold event away so they probably would welcome your attendance at Dunsfold.

Both at Sywell next Sunday. Nice event which has become quite popular in recent years and is sold out in advance, proceeds to the Northants Air Ambulance.
