Thanks Dave - 925 and 850 on the Santas then, with 92212 in reserve?

Time, as they say Steve, will tell about 76017...........

As for "The Twins" - maybe - maybe not, I suppose it depends on what the weather does, and if the requisite number of boxes will be available if needed, it looks like the replacement 37 will be the only one at the mo!

Personally, I'd like to see 92212 on the Santa's for a change............... :), I've got enough photo's of 850 & 925 on those trains!

Maybe 45379 might even be back together by then, dependent of course on what needs doing.

From what I hear 50027 Lion will be back in action in the very near future. Just in time for it's running day 23rd August and the diesel gala which is only four weeks away. With any luck 50027 will be top and tailing on the Santa's again this year. I hear 37099 will be or should be the other loco helping out on the Santa's. I understand this loco has a working steam heat boiler. May come in handy in the winter months. Wouldn't mind seeing 45379 and 92212 on the Santa's myself.

Just wondering if they will keep 76017 back until the Spring gala in March. To give the gala an extra attraction? It hasn't worked a service train for many years now and could bring in a good crowd and would also keep the costs down on visiting loco's.

If they kept 76017 back until the Spring Gala and repainted Lord Nelson into Brunswick green, coupled with Wadebridge, the 9f, the Black 5 plus 1 that would be a decent gala BR gala ;)

The latest Urie soceity magazine arrived this morning and it stated that 506s livery when restored hasnt been decided yet but it will be black, which I would assume would be BR freight black with either early or late crest.

Led to believe 506 will be out shopped in Southern sunshine lettering again.

Good. A very simple and very smart livery.

I always find SR wartime black a bit grim, especially on something as big and relatively cleanly detailed as an S15, which just ends up as acres of flat black and more black ahead of the cab. Even the BR smokebox numberplate seems to give a bit of detail which the SR livery just doesn't have. Purely out of interest, have any locos carried the early Southern goods black with green lining in preservation? The Urie S15s would definitely have worn it at some point in service.

I can't complain too much about the Urie society's plans though, I really like the idea of 499 in LSWR form. I just hope the stovepipe isn't as bad for the draughting on the S15 as it reputedly was for the N15.

It said in the members magazine they planned to start work on the front end soon. Looking good for a late 2015 return :)

Olive green? Isn't that the liviery planned for 828 whe it returns. Has the plan for 499 to be restored to original LSWR condition been scrapped?

Led to believe 30499 is still going in to LSWR condition with stovepipe chimney.

Love the photos of Barry Stratton doing the dastardly deed of chopping the front end off. The smile in the photo says it all.

He really seemed to enjoy taking a gas axe to a 94 year old loco. Still it's all in the name of progress and I'm sure the day that a fire is lit for the first time with a newly restored 30506, the smile will be even bigger!

You got to enjoy your work, its werid taking an gas axe to the loco is normally a bad thing but on this project its a major milestone! Great work by the Urie guys cant wait to see the locos again at the autumn gala.
