IMG_0387.JPG Rebuilding of our former Durley Brazil Class is nearly complete.

Here she is having a run out at Oak Tree Halt.

She should be completely finished by our Enthusiast day on the 13th Sept

Looks great Henry - well done to all at SBR for another fantastic restoration! Glad to see she's regained her original outline :)

Beautiful, rode in her cab many a time when she was at Durley, but I don't think she's ever looked so good. Barry Curl would be very chuffed

Could never really understand why the tank arrangement was altered in the first place but fortunately the saddletank was kept.

Was the original tank salvaged from Durley as well? From a time at least tt was being used as the water tower if I remember correctly

No I'm not quite sure either Paul...it made it look absolutely massive, something more like standard gauge in miniature then a narrow gauge locomotive, although being originally 3' it is big anyway

Water tower tanks were made from redundant oil containers, although the saddle tank could well have been used for this purpose later on.

The old saddle tank was used as a water tower at Durley, but it was actually a welded replacement presumably fabricated locally at British Aluminium. At the auction it was purchased, not by Statfold, for around £200 if I remember correctly.
And yes I agree, she looks much better with the saddle tank arrangement restored.

    Quite a change huh?

As a side note, does anyone happen to know what happened to the ex-WHHR coach (below) and OK 20777? The diesel was ex-Norden Clay Works and I'm surprised they didn't try and get it back into Portland. My inkling is that it too went to Statfold? I thought the Hanomag 0-8-0 Feldbahn had gone to Statfold too, any ideas?

I see you found my pictures!

I think the WHHR coach went to The Purbeck Minning Museum. Not sure about the large open carriage.

The O&K went to Statfold, but i understand that the Purbeck Museum wanted the O&K also as it has heritage there.

Superb job on the Hunslet. Are Statfold likely to add the large wooden buffers, which she had at Lochaber?

(saying that, it may have been No.1 that had the buffers, this loco was No.2)

I did, and very good they are. I don't think any of my photographs of Durley survive

P1100347.JPG The Purbeck Mining museum wanted the O&K diesel and bid up to £25k for it, but they were outbid by Statfold. Here she is on the day before the sale.
The Feldbahm was bought by Statfold but I understand it was then swapped for the Hudswell Clarke
I'm not sure who bought the WHHR coach but it went for just a few hundred pounds.

She is looking grand Henry - congratulations on another fine restoration! Next for the Davenport...*runs and hides* ;)

Will the ex-L&BR/Thorpe Park coaches be running in September?

    Thanks

No need to run and hide! The Davenport is already stripped down and the restoration well underway! Trouble is we`ve now found out it isn't the loco we thought it was! We are just finalizing our research and we will then reveal its true identity.

The Thorpe Park coaches wont be running until next March now. We just need to make some adjustments to suit our railway

    Cheers

    Henry

Looking forward to seeing her at the September date, will she be running with Trangkil? or is she going to be on her own?
