I believe the Flyers for 29th and 5th Sept are still expected to run, but with what motive power and which route is anyone guess.

I'm sure I saw it mentioned earlier in thread, but the Scarborough Flyer (or whatever now) is running but it is Diesel hauled to end of season. Leaflets produced and in Scarborough booking office also show that the fare to York is also cheaper than using TOCs on the line.
This will keep some income coming in, and there is the extra cost for leaflets being printed but at least non normal users of this service when Steam may use it as cheapest way return to York in heritage coaches.
It was being hauled by a blue class 47 if my memory is correct, the one with a Union Jack on side of loco.
To keep this running next year, hopefully with Steam traction, please use it or loose it.

That's the Scarborough Spa Express. The discussion here is about the Flyer. Of course, the steam ban applies to both, and still needs to be lifted for the Flyers to run.

Thanks, I apologise for my confusion on the "Scarborough" trains, and I stand properly corrected.
The other point about use of replacement Diesels is of course still valid IMO.

Why is the steam ban still on with all this rain around?

The rain is just one of several reasons for the ban on Steam locomotives. Others include Gauging problems, weights, track movements, FB strikes etc.
You say rain has been around, yes it has but several areas are still light brown and parched and what rain fell just run off as to dry and hard for land to absorb. Some areas are showing very little signs of "green". The winds that are around are also drying out areas very quick, while some other areas are flooded!
In North Wales there has been very little rainfall despite forecasts and news saying the opposite, with very dry grass and embankments alongside tracks just waiting for ignition. You wouldn't believe there has been any weed trains this last year or cutting back of foliage. I have never seen weeds etc so high.

The ban reviews don't just happen because there has been a rain shower, and to some it may appear easy to ban them running rather than have any running causing delays to regular users and timetables.
Some people in higher authority appear to still be of the mind set that steam hauled trains have no place in the Railways of the 21st Century.

There will need to be a decision on the ban within the next week because of the Newcastle-York -Leeds CME on 23 August.

been rerouted according to RTC website
Please note: The train will now start from York at approx 06:19, picking up at Darlington, Durham and Metro Centre afterwards. The train will then run anti-clockwise from Newcastle

My mistake. Still the same mileage in LNE zone territory though.

according to info seen on other groups gauging problem with track under a footbridge at Mosley, track has moved slightly in one direction causing limited clearance, only locos allowed Jubilee/Black 5
if FBU & steam ban end in time maybe a Black 5/Jubilee double header could do the honors with the last 2 Flyers & Coast to Coast on the 13th Sep

    Brilliant
someone needs to get there heads banged together and get this sorted, how much money has been lost by loco owners (46233 repainting unable to be done due to lack of work) RTC, WCRC, Scarborough & York traders
