When she came into sight I thought "there's a little bit of Poland hiding in deepest Staffordshire"..:) and the landscape fits quite well..

There must be some good pubs in the area, perhaps an NP mini gathering?

Err, I "could" be persuaded..................... :) but it would have to be a running day. ;)

I can get a train to Stoke, after that I'm at the mercy of public transport..............

Black Lion at Consall is decent, 5min walk from the Station! ;) And then Red Lion in Chedd is a good pub too, about 15min walk along the Canal! :p

Perhaps a contact with L'il Bear regarding a possible NP Convention / Beer Bash / BeerEx could see something being arranged - if enough people turn up to make the effort worth while !

The Black Lion may "seem" too far but if you want to photograph trains without leaving your (outside) seat then this pub can't be bettered; this scene from the pub garden looking to the station with a 2nd shot from behind the station - "Black Lion" in the background

Impressive yes, and very loud! Don't expect the TKH to go solo up the bank that regular though. As well as being a private charter, it was also a bit of a test and the results were mixed.

She did get to Ipstones, but trains are normally timetabled to do it in 20-25 minutes and we took 60mins yesterday. Bridge 2 and Bridge 5 were a crawl on the bends, and with it having rained just before we went up the bank there was a lot of slipping (even our ex-5D man driving said it was the hardest he's worked up there since his BR days!). With all the slipping we had to stop at Bridge 8 in order to just bring her back towards the red line, and after this she plodded on but still couldn't get above 10mph. Definitely the hardest I've fired up the bank, even the N7 is not that difficult and she can be awkward at the best of times!

    Pubs near the CVR;
    > Railway Inn - Next door to Froghall Station
    > Black Lion - Opposite Consall Station
    > The Boat - Oppostie Cheddleton Station
    > The Red Lion - 15min walk from Chedd station
    > Travellers Rest - 5min walk from Leek Brook (when we finally open the platform)

The Black + Red are my personal favourites, issue with the Black is its hardest pub to get to when the trains have finished as the road access isn't great.

After our Cauldon Weekend Sept 6/7 we do only go to Sunday public running, with Saturdays booked for Private Charters / Footplate Experiences. October 5th is our last running day of the season, after which we have Ghost Train evening, Santas and then our Mince Pie Cauldon services.

The best pub by far is at Cauldon - the Yew Tree - a real time capsule, but the Black Lion is idyllically situated and has a good selection of ales too.

Sounds typical of a yard shunter - plenty of guts but weak in the kettle dept? What's the evap surface and grate area vs the N7, is she superheated? How much fire does it throw?

I like all of the above and the Yew Tree at Cauldon too. I've a real soft spot for the Boat at Chedd since I used to nip there on my lunch hours many years ago. Nice to see the Travellers open again too.

All in all, though, hard to beat the Black Lion.

Yew Tree is excellent, but at present we don't operate to Cauldon so be bit difficult to get everyone there via the CVR...

The Boat for me isn't what it once was, you just have to look on a summer's day when most times you can still get outdoor seats no matter the time you turn up. Under the previous management you were lucky to get a seat! The Red Lion has also got new management, and when I stay over is my preferred destination. Not as big a selection as the Black, but excellent nonetheless.
