I thought a list of lines and centres connected to the national system might be of interest.

Feel free to add to the list

    I'll start with a few

    Severn Valley
    Bluebell
    Mid Hants
    Swanage
    South Devon
    West Somerset
    Didcot Rly Centre

Paignton and Dartmouth. North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Epping Ongar does or is about to, to allow a stock move.

Chinnor and Princes Risborough has been reconnected but I believe the connection has been removed again.

Before the thread gets longer it might be useful to know which lines with a NR connection have well used connections. such as the regularly used Torbay Express and other 'specials' connection at Paignton and those less frequently used.

Posts already made could be amended by adding a letter (F) for frequent or (I) for infrequent.

The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway's junction at Manuel, with the exception of the NYMR, is probably one of the most heavily used heritage railway to national network connections. Last year uses including the contract to stable & fuel Colas Rail locomotives, access for West Coast locomotives and stock, base for the SRPS railtour train, visiting engines (e.g. 55022) , Royal Scotsman servicing every March, mainline steam servicing etc.

That's a good idea, but calls for more knowledge than the casual poster may have

NYMR definitely (F) - now 10 times per day, 6 days per week and 6 the other day!

Perhaps a sticky table listing all standard gauge heritage railways with a field showing whether there is a connection to the national rail network would be easier to view. It would just require someone willing to read new posts and keep the table updated.

Whilst on this subject does anyone know if any heritage railway is connected to Network Rail at two separate locations?

Strathspey must have one of the most used, the Royal Scotsman traverses it up to four times a week during summer.

East Lancs is connected to Network Rail at Hopwood (Castleton) and connected to Metrolink at Bury.
