Couldn't believe the NYMR wasn't at the top/first on list as the only Heritage Railway with regular running of Steam/Diesel trains on the National Network to Whitby 7 days a week during operational months, and Battersby, plus all the loco movements that happen, as well as the deliveries of Ballast for PW etc.

The Ribby connection to Network Rail is used several times a week for 1400 ton bitumen trains all year round so I reckon it's second only to the NYMR in frequency of use. Ray.

I suppose it depends on how you define a connection, but arguably the FFFFFFFFFFFFFFfffffffffestinioggggggggggggg (Is that enough 'f's and ''g's? I'm never quite sure;).) does cross platform interchange in two places.

    kind regards

IMHO the daily (Mon to Friday) HOBC ballast replacement train working onto the WSR at Norton Fitzwarren must put us fairly well up the list (after the all conquering NYMR, of course).

    kind regards

Thank you folks for accepting my suggestion. By the way, this isn't a top 20 list, the OP just asked which ones connected and suggested additions to the list as they became known. Not sure about 'g'. Maybe connections that have now gone!

No. C&WR tracks are parallel with the Up Relief when I looked yesterday.

Isn't the Rother Valley now connected to the mainline at Robertsbridge? Or there was at least a temporary connection added recently.

Remarkably, TRACKatlas shows a boundary beween C&W and NR just outside the station, so that the Cholsey end of the line belongs to NR despite the absence of a connection. Maybe someone involved with the C&W can explain how that situation has come about.

There will shortly be a siding connection. As far as I know it has not been commissioned yet.

MCR/CVR at Stoke - give or take a forest of trees to be cleared, a few thousand sleepers to be replaced etc - but rail is still in situ.

    Ecclesbourne?

No, there's no physical connection at Duffield. I would imagine even an occasional use one-direction only** connection (requiring manual operation by NR and EVR staff in coordination) would be physically possible but probably far too expensive for the benefits (there's room for an extra track for incoming/outgoing trains to sit on while waiting to pass over to the EVR or back to the main line).
A fully signalled connection with a crossover between the main up/down lines would probably be ludicrously expensive.

**What I mean by this is that trains from derby could go onto the EVR but trains from the EVR would reverse onto the 'holding track' then have to go forward towards sheffield, this would avoid having a presumably very expensive crossover between the main up/down lines.

Thanks, I'm not surprised. Just wondered if the old connection was still there.

Maybe we need a third category of cross-platform connection? eg (x)

Perhaps we need a third frequency catagory, Moderate frequency - mf. This would apply to to SVR which whilst readily available has no regular use but is used by visiting locos, NR test trains and training, sending locos out for tyre turning etc and the ocasional excursion. Next excursion Chiltern rail 6 September.

If someone does do a spreadsheet perhaps include a code for ease of connection. EG as SVR and NYMR fully signalled. Others being by gated conection
