No, tomorrows is because the only candidate has gone sick, next week is for operation reasons, I'll explain when I see you as while it is nothing to get excited about I'd say its "Not for recorded line" so to speak.

Sorry for not being around muchg lately, a shortage of guards has lead to me being almost continually in a van somewhere. I belive the lads have been progressing well with the underside of 80982, and moving this project hopfully towards an end. I will try to give you a more detailed report as soon as I can.

I should be away more often, tool van number 80982 has been a long overhaul but the interior is now in chocolate and cream, and looks much brighter inside now. I believe there is still some bits and bobs to do underneath but she's getting close now.
Inside the shed, Cadbury van 346 is progressing well. This wagon of uncertain origin arrived on the SVR in 1971, she is a rebuild of a much older wagon, with a steel body on a much older frame. She arrived on the valley from Cadbury's at Moreton on the Merseyside, and on this overhaul we found some traces of her old paint work, so she is now in a much deeper livery than last time, Its something akin to a purpleish version of Crimson Lake, and looking very smart.
Next up, built in 1896, rebuilt as an improvised gun powder Van just before WW2, loaned at one time to the SR at one time, is one time Iron Mink 58725, one door lintel has been taken out for replacing, and work is getting under way on this, while 1911 built ballast wagon 60906 is awaiting her second coat of signwriting.
Finally work is slowly progressing on making new brake pins for 13154, hopefully I will have more progress to report next time,
    Wish us luck
    Olly

Just a brief update this week, work is progressing well on the Cadbury wagon, her new paint is deeper in colour than the bauxite-ish livery she was in before, the colour established by revealing an older paint job under the last SVR one.
Work on 60906 is approaching completion, she awaits the finishing of the sign writing.
Gunpowder van number 58725 has been receiving some attention with body filler, and the black paint is going onto her now, while the door lintels are receiving some attention.
Meanwhile outside, the operational fleet had some routine maintenance ready for a logging train last weekend, and a charter this week, nothing untoward turned up which is a relief.
    All the best
    Olly

Olly could I ask a question? As regards the conflat wagon is this the one that was at Arley with the Wolverhampton branch's container? If if it is Id wouldnt mind knowing the state of how the chassis is, myself and Jack Bond spent the summer of '97 with wire brushes, scrapers etc working on it, as a 14 yr old it gave me a great impression of how even the smallest components are not that small! And rather heavy!

Matt, The Wagon is in a pretty good state, but will need some TLC to the Kerb rails, yes it is the same one.

When seeing the 813 sales stand, how about purchasing a DVD or book to help the Fund pay for the upkeep of the rolling stock the Fund maintains on the SVR ?
Each vehicle costs at least £10000 plus to restore or renovate........12 goods wagons equals £120,000 plus!
So put your cash into the GWR 813 Fund if you enjoy seeing the Goods Trains running on the SVR and
Help keep the Goods Train running.......purchase an item or more from the sales stand or
    Make A Donation!

Not entirely sure about your figures there Nick, it depends on the nature of the repairs, but your point is a valid one, although the 813 fund stall raises money for their wagons, coaches and loco on the SVR and also on other railways.

I was of course joking, but they show what we have all been up to, the Cadbury Wagon is very near finished, awaiting some sign writing and some painting on the chassis. To address comments about the livery, they were never the deep blue-ish purple of the chocolate Wrappers, this livery was found under the old paint job during cleaning down, however it has been mentioned to me by someone that the livery was similar to LMS red, this paint job is very close to LMS lake, so we are fairly sure it is right.
The two pictures inside the goods shed show the Gun Powder Van, one door has been removed for attention as the metal cladding is in a poor state, but the rest of the wagon, as you can see, is progressing well.
The Vanfit, 65620 is in for what will hopefully only be a repaint, however, the down sides of the plywood construction of this 1947 product of the Wiltshire Job creation scheme, the paint on these always seems to crack and flake worse than the plank construction ones, however after a tip from the carriage department, we are going to try a different approach with the paint.
The last two pics show the work on 13154's brake gear, the final brake pin in the elderly Holbrook Lathe, being made from a recycled DMU engine mounting bolt. Despite the age of the machines in here they are a credit to the 1501 lads who look after the machine shop and keep these machines in superb mechanical order, proof of this is in the final pic (First one in the list). I recently found out that the tolerances we are working too were tighter than they needed to be, as we were working to +/- 0.005", but it turns out Derby on the DMUs were only working to +/- 0.01" while we would like to think Swindon worked to higher standards heaven knows what the tolerances on Wagons were, however these pins are supposed to be 0.750", the mic is reading 0.7503" so I think it will do! The plan is now to make the brake drop links and push rods before tacking the hangers, only when we have a kit of parts will the wagon be stopped for the work to be done.
    Wish us all luck
    Olly

I'm impressed with what you lot are up to Olly, being a member of the Mid Hants Wagon Group, I would be wouldn't I!

I was mightily impressed with the facilities you have at Bewdley - or should I say envious! - when I and another from the group came up to the "behind the scenes" weekend - shame there was no one to have a yak with!

Agree totally in the quality of the work carried out.
What day is usually the best to catch bodies in action?
As the Civils fleet team at the NYMR are feeling like having a day out.
