............and getting back on topic but still with an aircraft theme.........

    WILL & GARY

    Three Miles High for 82045

The weekend of 16th/17th August sees the most unusual event yet in the history of the 82045 project....a sponsored parachute jump to raise funds for the boiler. The jump will take place 15,000 feet (argh!!) above, of all places, Swindon, and will be undertaken by intrepid SVR fitters Will Marsh and Gary Williams. An initial thought is to sponsor, say, £1 for every 1,000 feet of their sickening earthward plunge.

If you would like to get in early with your sponsorship - cheques should be made out to the `82045 Steam Locomotive Trust`, marked Parachute Jump on the back and sent to Barbara Massau, 4 Southfield, Prestbury, Cheshire, SK10 4XF. Thanks in advance - and thanks especially to Gary and Will for this tremendous gesture.

I saw 82045 last week... I was really impressed. (Unfortunately my photos of a lot of my SVR visit didn't make it to the SD card...82045 and the Engine House amongst them :-(

Having taken a look yesterday for the first time since the middle of April, it is coming on quite nicely. Any ideas what the estimated time for wheeling is?

Our wheelsets are still in South Devon having crank pins fitted and machining of the axle boxes continues at Bridgnorth. We are still hopeful that it will come together this year. :)

I had noticed the frames were being prepared to accept the cylinders, but didn't realize the machining of the cylinder's was so far advanced. Sometimes with this project you blink and miss something !

An interesting insight into the financial model for 82045. It appears to contain several elements, all of which contribute significantly to the whole. Probably difficult to manage during set up, but once running proving a very successful approach. I guess it still depends in large on the support of members and supporters. The back up the management team appears able to offer the engineers is also impressive. The two groups appear to have planned in advance so delays are minimal. This must be an important factor in the constant forward progress.

    Congratulations to everyone involved.

All terribly exciting stuff chaps, and as you say, delivered bang on time. Regular monthly publication updates are another feature of this project which deserves comment.

One obvious question. There are two pairs of wheels and two crank pins shown in the photographs in the update, and I recall seeing a similar combination in the recent newsletter. Trust a decision hasn't been taken to make 82045 a 2-4-2 ?:D

Any news on the Pony truck wheels ?
