Can't remember exactly but the issue remains the same. Locos previously gauge friendly are no longer.

There's not much coming by rail is there?................ Nunney Castle is the only one that springs to mind........ the Brit is already there, and I see little chance of her going anywhere for the foreseeable....... everything else will be coming by road - there's going to be a few traffic jams in Alresford for a few weeks!

When I saw the news about the class 40 in the DG thread I instantly thought of 5029's move to the MHR in October. I hope she is not out of gauge now. One hopes that people involved with gauging will look into this matter a bit earlier than they did for the Class 40 move!

Alresford is going to be busier than Clapham Jct in October with all the movements required. As well as the loco's coming in there is also the arrival of the Autcoach. Lets hope the vehicles used are a bit more reliable than the one used to take the 9F to Peterborough yesterday! 92212 was stuck on the High Street all day.

Well, you'd better get a job at control then................ you know as well as the rest of us that the number crunching wont happen until about a week before........ though 5029 seems to be quite gauge friendly compared to some - so keep yer pinkies crossed that is the case.......

As for the Whistler, words fail me - they ain't that fat! (but we digress....)

Just had a look on the Icons of Steam website, and at the See and Travel page. A quick look down the bottom of the page shows that 5029 is down to appear at the MHR gala... but not the Brit!

Perhaps that's the confirmation that 70000 won't be ready in time? Maybe I've just read too much into it?! :p

Well they are still putting adverts in the Mags with 70000 as 70026 on them so perhaps they are hoping she might just make it!

I don't think many people will be too bothered if she does miss it, there are plenty of other visitors to haul the trains :D

Technically she will make it just by nothing happening over the next month, I somehow doubt she will have moved from her current location next to the pit at Ropley.

I said way back - come the gala, whether in the yard or in steam either way she'll be there - and there's nothing to stop her being renumbered & named........

An update on this event from the AGM: Unfortunately 7812 will not be attending the Gala as the SVR need her due to a loco shortage. Also 70000 will not be operational for the event. Disappointed about 7812. Was really looking forward to see how she tackled the banks.

7812 is not that highly rated.7822 is the best of the ones I have travelled behind, but I learnt today at the SVR from people connected to her, that they are still short of money to pay for the repairs. Are they looking for a replacement? Would like to travel behind 7820 up decent gradient.

You're not wrong there!! The ones built in 1950 are much louder than those built in 38/39. They're like different engines. They don't even sound alike.

Be a shame if there wasn't a Manor present at all - they've (thanks largely to 7827's efforts) become my favourite steam class since getting back into this and the prospect of one up the Mid-Hants gradients was something I was hugely looking forward to. But with two railways with working Manors already sending other locos to this gala and 7827 not due to go wandering again after the SDR/WSR last autumn, I'm guessing the chances of a substitute are slender. The Castle and Hall are still going to be spectacular, though.

I guess it would be too expensive / difficult to arrange lending the SVR one of the MHR home fleet so that the Manor could still come. Still, it should be a good gala none the less.

The place of 7812 is being taken by one of the MHR fleet at the Gala.

I would guess (could be completely wrong) this will be the 9f as she hasn't appeared at a Gala in a while, plus they ran on the western region.

Don't you read ANYTHING the MHR puts on its website?........................

The original plan was for just the 9F to work the gala out of the home fleet.........

Personally, I'd like to see the Black 5 join in the fun, but if it ain't back together & released from the wheel drop in time, then we'll just have to put up with one of the twins.

Oh well, just have to put up with something superior and Southern like a Lord Nelson then...

That was due to appear at the gala anyway, so another memeber of the home fleet will be required.

Black 5 or 925 would be the most suitable stand in as they regularly worked on the WR. Can't remember at the moment if Nelsons did?
