That's not such a bad fleet, especially towards end of season.

    Matin,

Your forgetting 41312 will be back in action in 2015. I can't see there being an issue with lack on locos in the next few years. Even if 34007 was to come out sooner than expected the loco fleet would still be in good shape.

That's six locos which is still a reasonably good fleet of locos to call on.

And no two the same class. Just running these six would make a great gala.

Isnt 30506 due back at the start of 2016?
I am hopeful that CanPac would be ready just before the end of 2017/ beginning of 2018 depending on how things go with the overhaul and funding.

The Mid Hants have done well get themselves in a situation where it wont be long before most of the locos in operation will be owned by them.

Even better if it was to be an all BR liveried gala.

That, is exactly what the aim is, after the JB saga, can you blame them?.........

Its a good position to be in, and hire in as and when needed.

Everyone has forgotten the blue thing…. that the Mid Hants own! I believe that engine is a nice money earner being nearly constantly away on hire.

The Mid hants stable has enough capacity that even at peak season normally at least one engine (other than Thomas) is out on Hire/Loan to other railways.

Nope, I think we're just grateful that most the time is not there............. out & about earning money for its upkeep....... astute investment that!

I wonder what the plan is when its ticket runs out - a PDQ overhaul over winter?

Can't change boilers over any more since they sold off Douglas. Just wonder if there's a good case in having another boiler made. Isn't there a consortium thinking of having a batch of J94 boilers built. I remember reading about this idea some years ago in one of the railway mags.

you could always raid the KESR for another austerity :) they wont miss it ;)
Didnt Thomas have a new firebox fitted last time round, or did that end up on the other thing? Now what should have IMHO opinion happened was to have converted that to a second Thomas, painted it plain black then when Thomas needed overhaul you could repaint it, and then sent that out:) hang on, what an idea that would have been, if you have had 2 thomas's imagine the fun you could have had, ;) MEET THOMAS'S EVIL TWIN  boys and girls complete with sinister face whaaaaa ha

So. Pre 1948 liveries do not interest me. Never saw them and certainly don't like locos that carry them now.

Wouldn't mind seeing 30925 in BR black with early emblem. I'm sure Matt Allen and his merry men would be happen to see 30850 in BR green for one of his photo charters.

30925 in black...lovely. When the Bluebell get 928 working, and in Southern Livery, perhaps this might come to pass!
30850 in Green would be a charter magnet, just needs a charter magnate to organise it (and for NRMand Mr Chambers to agree!!)
Looking forward to 499 in a re 1948 livery though, complete with stove pipe chimney and early pattern cab....I'm not biased, just like seeing locos in different liveries during their "tickets" Tornado being a prime example, I've seen it in three different liveries.

I'm expressing absolutely no opinion on liveries whatsoever here, but I'm sure I remember Anthony or another NRM bod saying Cheltenham could be painted any colour they wanted as long as it double headed with Nelson in malachite first!

Ok there are two potential routes here...
    1. I never saw steam in service at all, so they should all be scrapped.
    2. You can see locos in pre-1948 liveries any day you like right now.
