I'd suggest 3/5/64 when 34002 worked an RCTS tour to mark the end of steam in Cornwall.

Seems you're correct. I didn't think Tangers had got that far but I'm wrong.

Here’s my video from the 5th, taken at Honiton Tunnel, Whiteball, Dainton and Devonport.

Just to remove any doubt about the return. Our brochure says that it is Tangmere plus Class 47. We have been warned.

I would like to know what changed since when the loco, load and route were agreed and the fact that a few days before the ACE it was clear from RTT that the diesel was going to return to Southall after banking out of Victoria..

If it's to do with the sub of Tangmere on The Duchy then I'll have more to say on the matter when I've enjoyed the delights of Cornwall.

Yes, lovely video with very good sound tracks.

But when I watched the second clip the first time, I thought slip coaches had been reinstated, only someone got the train formation wrong and had slipped almost the whole train! LOL.

    ;)

Seems to have been a bone of contention on such a high profile trip. Not originally planned for by all accounts.
Big Al's post #253 doesn't bode well either.

    Al

Why would Tangmere on the Duchy affect the ACE? Surely it was purely down to the load and Tangmere's recent misdemeanor?

Great clips. Where was the one on Whiteball taken?

Don, it was taken at Marlands, it can be seen on an ordnance survey map. Approaching on the A38 from the south, take a right turn to White Ball, then take a very sharp right turn and follow the road down to the railway bridge. Immediately after the railway bridge turn right. There is a small parking area. It can get very busy here but on this occasion I was the only one.

Superb song. I first heard it when it used was on the final episode of One Foot in the Grave:

It got me into The Travelling Wilburys.

Both locos light through Truro this morning - not the best vid but nice to see them both 'naked' with no support coach.

Interestingly I was at my best friends wedding this afternoon and during the photos at the reception, we were standing on a large balcony that overlooked the hayle estuary - just as they were going back the other way, so my friends wedding photos have the two locos in the background!!

Just spotted that WC is trusting Tangmere on The Duchy with a lighter load today. Good. So the load was the problem on the ACE.
For what it's worth and looking at the ACE I reckon that we might have all fitted into 11 rather than 12. No further comment on that one as I may be wrong.
