Had a rather fun day at SVR yesterday rather suprised at the amount of folks about, but good to see trains well loaded think the beer fest may have had somthing to do with that. Rather impressed with the Standard 5 its a rather fine beastie (and a tad loud). I'll also say how impressed I was with the Chiltern stock who'd have thought lining up the seats with the windows would be such a good idea?! What a fantastic day and all for £11.50 superb value!

I don't know about BR days but 73096 has also visited the SVR and she makes a rather good noise too!

Std 5's are red restriction on the GWR route available scheme and I'm sure the Valley was blue at best.
It does sound rather nice, takes a little bit to get going I've noticed but when it does it is rather nice. Any photos from yesterday or today would have been good with it paired to the 2 mark 1 sets.

Had my SVR News through today and see that next year's 50 years since it all began so just wondered what people on here would have for ideas for events, visting locos etc? Im guessing 3205 is top of the list as a visiting engine but I wouldnt mind seeing a certain W22W back again...

Well out of the 1st five working engines on the railway only one is in working order and still based at the railway and although I am not a huge fan of loco renumberings I do think at one of the galas it would be nice to hire in a Black 5 as 45110, an 8f as 48773 and a Mickey Mouse as 46443. Then Bring in 3205 along with the Pig, that would be something interesting.

Oh and I have no idea how far the overhaul is but it would be nice to see 193 Shropshire back, it could work the Northern locals.

A gala centred on Bridgnorth, with services only going as far as Eardington and back?
Totally impractical I know, but hey ho.

Just wondering who here went to this year SVR G AGM? As 3 of the invited locos for next year's Spring and Autumn galas were mentioned...

Well, 2010 had a kind of reunion theme, but lets see what we've had recently or not that used to be based on the Valley:
3205 came back in 2010 but as it was the first loco to pull a service train...
70000 was invited back in 2010 I think but didn't come and it's been a few years since the last Brit to visit (70013 in 2009)
6960...well it's been a while since that was last on the valley
    61994, visited in 2011(?)
    45690, visited in 2010
    45699 anyone?
    46521 would be nice
    60009, yes please.

    And W22W...if only...

Maybe not a gala but some sort of special tickets only run or something - might be popular? I'd quite like a similar thing on the GWR when we get to a big birthday, Cadbury No. 1 with one or 2 MK1s choc 'n' cream on one side and blue and grey on the other

Not exactly a gala, but when the Bluebell had it's 50th anniversary, there was a period early in the year when the line north of Horsted Keynes was severed for p/way purposes, so the opportunity was taken on each of three consecutive weekends to run services typical of those we ran in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, as far as timetable, stock and locos were concerned, including making brief pauses at the various now-vanished halts along the way. I don't suppose we would have done it without the track closures, but it was a case of turning an necessity into a marketing opportunity at a time that would otherwise have been quiet.

A fiftieth is a big anniversary: worth celebrating not just with a big one-week blow out, but with a programme of events through the year.

I've hear that there is a plan to stop a few trains at Eardington next year as part of the 50th. In the latest SVR news (no. 187, received in yesterday's post), there is article on Eardington including news that there is plan to re-instate the missing part of the platform (though they say not with the aim of reopening)

  18. I had my first visit to the SVR this June and an excellent two days my wife and I spent down there. Did a bit of picture taking as you do and especially pleased to find the Licky incline was not far away and got some good pics before it's electrified. I think the catenary might spoil the effect when installed. Well that's progress I suppose. They said that in 1953 I seem to remember. Many thanks to all the SVR for a great visit.

Nice to see the 60s weekend clashes with the well established one at Llangollen. Another case of a railway not looking at other events going on the same weekend to avoid diluted visitor figures.

Just looked at this years date for Classic vehicle day and it was the equivalent weekend so the clash is not new.
