My footage of the two Lancasters, plus the BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane at Dawlish Air Show last Saturday.

As well as the English Electric Canberra.

Saw them again at the Little Gransden airshow on Sunday. Could hear them coming for miles. Each year the show features a short service of remembrance and the arrival was timed to coincide with the prayer for airmen. I barely held it together then and I can barley hold it together now just thinking of it. One of the most moving moments I've experienced ever.

The Canadian lanc is currently grounded on account of an engine failure. Only the BBMF lanc made it to Shoreham yesterday, and it sounded like it would be the same today while spares were sourced and fitted for the Canadian one. Hopefully it won't disrupt the programme for later on.

Apart from that, Shoreham was a great show - photos later if I get a chance to sort through!

It blew a supercharger seal on Thursday on no.4 engine. The BBMF has loaned them a replacement and the plan is to have it fitted in time for the three Lancasters event on Tuesday. The Canadians have admitted it will be tight but will do everything they can to meet the deadline.

Vera has been repaired but not in time to do the required ground and air tests on the replacement engine. Same result though - no flying Lancs at East Kirkby tomorrow.

Well the forecast for Lincolnshire looks good, so hopefully they'll be flying today, although the schedule is manic to try and cover some of the events cancelled yesterday! Looks like 16:00 for the fly past at East Kirkby after a long day's flying....I'm off to get in the car :)

The 2 Lancs went over my house on the North side of York this morning at 09.35 heading North.
2 Spits or similar circling at about 16.00 possibly for a flypast at Elvington this afternoon

An amazing and emotional day at East Kirkby today. Looks like Big Stu was towards the end of the flight line, further down from me.

Wish I was there, but tickets sold out the day they were issued. I'm sure they'd have funded a fair chunk of the restoration of 'Just Jane' if they allowed more than 5,000 in! There's always the possibility of a return visit in future (I understand there's a second Canadian Lanc going for gold?). I'm just glad I saw them at Clacton.

I'll second that Ian - I had a 'dust in the eye' moment watching them fire up Just Jane earlier in the day, let alone when the exhortation was given over the PA after the flypast. We thought we had worked out the best place to stand (having overheard NX611's pilot describing the anticipated flypast sequence earlier in the day), but actually it was impossible to get good shots of all three in the two head on passes across the airfield from where we were - PA474 & FM213 went right over the top of us both times. Sadly we were nowhere near as well prepared as those people who brought chairs and camped out on the flight line all day...

A fantastic day all round - even the carnage of the free for all to get out of the car park amused us :)

Most interesting fact of the day - I didn't know there's another taxyable Lancaster (and a quick Google shows it to be FM159, in Canada, where there is also a fifth aircraft, FM212, under restoration for return to flight). At this rate those Canadians will end up with more working Lancs than us!

And then people would have said they couldn't get a good view. Crowd was several rows deep as it was. They did advertise an overflow day - which today was - once the event on the 2nd sold out so that's 10,000 tickets sold so you were a bit slow if you missed that one as well. :)

Guilty as charged m'lud. EK provided a good supply of their own chairs FOC. Very nice of them. :) Got talking to some fellow photters and we watched each others stuff when calls of nature needed attending to.
I was out within 10 minutes of starting the car. Got there early so was very close to the exit.
