My effort from Greenholme. Had intended to start the chase at Brock but the unexpected service of Fairburn No. 42073 at Lakeside delayed my detoured trip down! End up with too okayish bridge shots (Lancaster & Mossband), paced the Duchess up Beattock and naff night shots at Carstairs! Ho Hum....

Nice shot Jonathon - good bit of sun as well. You got lucky with 42073, as it was Repulse in service since last Wednesday.

    Regards,

    Dan

You've got to feel for any Repulse fans who ventured there yesterday though ;)

Hah! Beautiful shots Jonathon - the light at Brock was flat as a pancake in any case, so well worth missing for the Fairburn.

As already noted, 46233 and her crew were well in command of their charge yesterday; the safety valves lifted about half a mile south of Beattock Summit. Video from various places including Shap and Beattock now up:

Looking at your last shot on Beattock, I think we spotted one of your team on that bridge round the corner from the summit, and after a quick scout we decided to try elsewhere! Brilliant footage though. Was something else watching her fly in the darkness.

Many thanks Jonathon. Aye not the best spot for stills but passable for video, especially in the dark - the closest we can get to removing the wires without digital help! It must have been quite something pacing her from the B-road.

Apologies for this shot which no one else got (and no wonder!) but it's one I've been planning to get for a while.
Way back in 1960 as a 12 year old, myself and two school friends were 'spotting' at Manchester Victoria and we decided that the WCML had much more to offer. So we caught a train to Newton-le-Willows and walked up Southworth Road to the bridge over the mainline. We only stayed about an hour, but during that time the down 'Royal Scot' passed underneath us hauled by 46240 'City of Coventry'. It was the first time I had seen both the loco and the famous 'Royal Scot' tartan headboard. That sight has stayed firmly in my memory for the last 54 years and many is the time I've thought 'oh for a time machine!' Well, thanks to 46233 and Photoshop Elements I've managed to re-create(ish) that sight. Sorry to bore you all but maybe older members will understand my reasons.:)

Looks like 46233 has assistance for her move from Bo'ness to Crewe in the form of 56094 on the front .

Isn't it a WCRC move, wasn't aware they had any 56's?

They don't, doesn't mean it isn't them crewing it however as they operate privately owned diesels too, do Colas have paperwork for ECS steam moves ?, given 56094 is one of theirs.
