Because that has precisely what to do with the topic of the thread? What a pointless thing to be going on about. I can see where this is going and I am sure you will enlighten us as to what you have contributed to the SVR as that is what it is building up to I am sure

You need convincing? I'm lucky I guess that it isn't 3 hours drive for me but to me it's a no brainer:D Look forward to see you there ;)

Yes I do............. lets just say, the Mrs is a tad fragile at the mo (for reasons I wont go into in public) and weekends can be "fun"!..... so If I can be I will - plan being to trot up by mid afternoon for some night time photography - so 3 hrs each way make it prohibitive to do all day!

No I am not going to indulge in willy waving - so you will just have to speculate what my contribution is, but I will say it is considerably more than just taking pics in 1970 (when I wasn't around).

BTW - if it is so pointless, why are you jumping in as soon as I post?

I suppose the drive wouldn't be as bad during the night? Last year I had a mad idea to get up a 3am, 1 1/2 hour journey to SVR, ride on some night trains, get the breakfast service, ride on same day trains and peruse the stands and home again in time for lunch :D In the event of it Dad was ill in the end, but it would have been brilliant!

You still haven't answered my question - "why the cynicism?"............

As for the drive back down the M40 in the small hours - you are joking right?........ its a 'kin race track at silly o clock in the morning, with no plod about....

I once had the bright idea to stay up til 4 in the morning behind 7802 then leap off at Arley, so I could listen to it dissapear into the night, then listen to telegraph bells from the signal box and was then treated to 7812's whistle echo round the valley as it approached from Bewdley. Magic! Almost as fun as going past Safari Park at 7 in the morning as the sun was coming up. Bloody tiring later in the day though!

I thought so, but seeing as he quoted me immediately followed by the cynicism question I got confused :)

Actually I started this with my post about Freeloaders, and maybe I should have qualified that, but never mind I didn't. Just to say that I always contribute something as my visits to the SVR and other lines always comprise a mix of travel and photography. I cant justify being a member of every line and nor do I have the time or energy in my busy life to be a volunteer. Well done to those who are.

I will now retire to my den to plan my next bash which is to the WSR.

One of my favourite memories was in 2010, when I missed the Sunday morning departure from Kidder (around 2am) after getting off for a toilet break. I therefore retired to the LMS set which was stabled in P2, and the next thing I remember is 7802 waking me up as she eased off the speed restriction at Sterns at around 0630. Only at the SVR ASG!

I think that one of the Mk1 sets splits into 2 to form ON1 & ON2, and that L1/L2 are split from the LMS set.

If Im wrong Im sure Ill be corrected quickly!
