There were two tenders involved; 60007 and 60009.

Yes indeed. Had forgotten that. So a yard visit will be inevitable and I am back to thinking that there will be a major change to this trip and Glasgow substituted for Edinburgh may be just the start.

And during one stop the catering staff raided a nearby supermarket to replenish stocks of bread and bacon..... None of this silver service in first class nonsense.

Even if it just goes to Glasgow, it will be an adventure, with a bit on new track for me towards the end of the outward journey, and half the return if we go via Dumfries. But Edinburgh would be the preferred icing on the cake.

I agree, as personally, I treat all my steam trip as adventures, along with many other travellers I have met.
It was interesting and amusing reading the RCTS report at http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/640926sl.html
    An adventurous day back then.

    Now there's a surprise.......

Meanwhile the RTC - the home of up to date information - is still running the tour as planned:
    http://www.railwaytouring.net/uk-day-trips/scottish-lowlander

As it's fully booked I guess what the website says is irrelevant. Ironically, had it been advertised to Glasgow in the first place then my guess is that it would have still sold out. I suspect that it has taken WCR to make sense of it all with NR.

Glasgow / Edinburgh - still rail tour of the year for me. Duchess and an A4, Shap both ways, Beattock - which city we end up in doesn't really bother me, this is about the journey. Glasgow has improved no end in recent years so is an excellent destination in its own right.

Be careful what you wish for. The West Highlander already has a passport stop in Quintinshill Loop.

Quintinshill. A name that always makes me shudder.

Al, if you are on that train when it stops in the Quintinshill loop just make sure that neither Meakin or Tinsley are on duty in the signal box.

RH has had that listing since around June, so perchance it is hedging bets.

No need for a passport check now, however a "kit inspection" will still take place :)

That scene would definitely spoil the landscape.
It truly would put the Low into the Scottish Lowlander.
