I thought when this matter arose that it was NE area not LNE area that was in dispute. Are they one and the same?

Edit : Just reread the WCRC press release. Seems it's the LNE and East Midlands area of NR that's involved. That covers a lot of route mileage. However the NR area map only mentions and NE and EM area and that dies;t extend all the way to London. Wonder how this will impinge on the Robin Hood run out of St. Pancras as that crosses into the NE and EM area?

I think with regard to the Robin Hood we just have to hope the dispute is resolved by then, especially since it runs entirely in the affected area.

St Pancras is in the EM area, as is the entire MML for that matter and nearly all branches off it. The switch to LNE area is somewhere between Nottingham & Newark.

I see. Seems NR have a very liberal interpretation of the extent of the East Midlands.

Is there a minimum number of days beforehand that a tour will be cancelled? I am booked to travel on one of the tours mentioned in post 291. I emailed the operator concerned who denied any knowledge of potential problems

With the present situation of the steam ban in that area, I would say that unless NR and West Coast come to some sort of agreement pretty soon, then it's unlikely that this will run. Always worth keeping an eye on http://www.railwaytouring.net/news If it comes to cancellation then it will probably be at least a week before the date, probably 2 weeks.

I got the folowing when I emailed RTC:

    Dear Mr Day
Thank you for your email. We are hoping that the situation with regards to Netwrok Rail steam ban will be resolved before the Jubilee Requiem is scheduled to take place, however I cannot give you any more information at the present time.
    Kind regards

I'm in the same boat with the Robin Hood in November. If, as another poster has said, NR York's tentacles reach both St. Pancras and Kings Cross, the tour won't see much steam.

That's about all the operator can say as they rely entirely on what the TOC tells them and we are where we are.

That's a fair reply under the circumstances.

    When is the arbitration hearing?

And have the parties agreed to be bound by the results?

Am I right in assuming that RTC will cancel any affected train completely rather than running with diesel and/or electric haulage throughout?

Yes I would say that is the most likely outcome.

I can't think of an RTC trip that has run entirely diesel-hauled except due to very late unavailibity of the steam loco (e.g. when 6201 derailed at Crewe on the morning of a CME a few years ago)
