    Its 73096 sandwiched between the Ivatt 2 & 828.

I guess every time you've seen 73096 undercover - she would have been used for wheeldrop demo's at the galas.

Was that a deliberate neologism, or just a fortunate typo? Rather like it either way, mind! (Ducks to avoid the incoming missiles from the diesel aficionados! ;))

Last time was a Thomas event and I'm pretty sure it wasn't pretending to be Henry stuck in his tunnel.

It's a literary allusion: See Rev. W Awdry's Railway Series book 21, "Main Line Engines". Bill and Ben are alarmed when some china clay wagons they've been shunting at the harbour mysteriously disappear. Their drivers spot a patch of oil between the rails.
    "That's a diesel" they said.
    "A what-ll?" asked Bill.
"A diseasel, I think," replied Ben. "There's a notice about them in our Shed."
"I remember, 'Coughs and sneezles spread diseasles'..."

I thought all railway enthusiasts would know the cannon inside out and backwards. (Tsk, tsk, tsk... what is the world coming to... hrrmph...)

I doubt it, they never normally are. When Tony Wood ran the website, sometimes he would put up a brief note about the AGM minutes.

I remember reading the Awdry books to my kids when they were little (along with Beatrix Potter - my daughter could never hear the Roly Poly Pudding one enough times!), but I don't recall that one - we must not have had it. Anyway, thanks for enlightening me (and, apparently, a few more of us!).

News from the AGM: 70000 won't be ready for the Gala. So that's two locos out already (7812 is not coming now - see MHR autumn gala thread).

Wasn't able to attend the AGM this evening as I was working on the Belle, but I understand that Wadebridge (34007) needs two new steam pipes and will thus be out of action for a good while. Had a good look at 80150 in the headshunt tis afternoon, looking very forlorn. 34058 looked a lot better!

The news on the Steam loco fleet was a little worrying last night at the AGM:
    - Unfortunately 34007 was failed last Wednesday with a leaking Main Steam pipe (only one pipe was mentioned last night). At the moment they are looking at withdrawing her from service for the Winter so that
the pipe and other mechanical issues can be sorted out. So she will be out of action for some time. Perhaps hiring 34092 might be an idea after all!
    - 92212 was damaged by the Haulier taking her to the NVR as they tried to pull her off the trailer using the loco's Vacuum pipe! Not a big problem though as she was used at the NVR.
    - 45379 is currently trapped in the Wheel drop shed until they get new parts for the roller door motor from Italy. There is still some work to do on 45379 but it can't be done until the door is sorted as one of the diesel
shunters is currently sat on the wheel drop and it can't be moved until the door works.

News on loco's under overhaul was good. 41312 and 76017 are progressing well with hopefully both being ready for the Spring Gala.

It was mentioned that either 34058 or 80150 would be going into the works after 75079 is finished.

I thought electric roller shutter doors had a manual chain override for just that situation, the ones where I worked did.

Re 34007, one pipe has failed but the other is "wafer thin" apparently, so both will be replaced. I hadn't mentioned 45379 as I thought it too embarrassing! Good news about 34058/80150, the need to move the latter before the buddleias growing in her cab get bigger than the loco itself!!!

So to recap , next out of Ropley -76017, then 41312, then ...506?? then 34105, then 499, then 75079 , is that about right?? With 35005 being worked on at Eastleigh, subject to (lottery) funding??

Just to add a bit more info. The incoming loco to move 73096 to Carnforth will bring in a TSO and will take 73096 and the two Pullman dining cars back to Carnforth.

The situation as I understand it is that 34058 is a barry wreck (other than a protective coat of paint on the boiler) however it has nearly all the parts in storage required to complete the loco (including a tender currently at WSR).

80150 has arrived straight from Barry, however the 75079 gang are making duplicate parts for her at the same time so by the time 75079 is finished there will be another loco with a lot of the parts ready to push into the works (oh and being a tank she wont require a tender to be built!

I have a sneaking suspicion that the tank will be prioritised!

TSO to stay at the MHR? Oh and where do the Pullman dining cars come into the mix?

From my understanding after 75079 is finished the STD4 group moves on to 80150.

There is a TSO arriving and staying at the MHR and there are two metro cammell dining coaches leaving. From what I've heard we don't need them any more.
