At least you got some shots with some exhaust in evidence. Not so on Thursday.

Just got back from the SVR today and what a very good day out it was. I managed to bag all four of the engines I wanted in the first 4 journeys I made.

One of the posters on the WSR thread has said that 88 was doing herself and the WSR / S&D Trust proud, and I'm happy to repeat that point here. Lots of Chimney Chatter. 73129 was also making glorious racket. Weather a bit gloomy and a bit rainy but I think that adds to the atmosphere.

The Bathams Als is, I confess, really rather good too......

Spent the past couple of days there and loved it. Got there early Friday afternoon and rode till 2am. More trains today till 7ish. Highlights include riding in the saloon toplights behind the M7 through the dark and finally getting a trip in autotrailer. Timetable slipped a bit, but that's to be expected with such a heavy schedule. Shame the Standard 5 is leaving, she makes a glorious noise out of Highley towards Hampton Loade.

I saw 1450 at Erdington. It was like watching a railtour. I enjoyed today but it's a shame the auto train was the only authentic train that ran today. I'm sure there's good reason for it but they're usually spot-on with loco/stock pairings.

Id agree with that thought the M7 & 4566 looked good on the 2 coach locals not Authentic but seemed well suited with them, there was a comment about there being no big name loco there but personally my stars of the show were the M7, 1450, 73129 & the 4F. Well done Duncan another rabbit out the hat. Also like to say big thankyou to Kim, Joan Dot, Antonia and The Various Daves, and Robs for keeping my glass topped up over the past 3 days big pats on the back all round looking forward to Leander in 28 weeks time!

Yes 88 was star of the show for us . Made up 15 minutes of a late start on the 948 Kiddy with some lovely stack talk. An excellent day despite the grot weather. First time I have ever had to use 3200 iso when linesiding later in the day, having bagged 3 new engines for haulage. Generally good operating with SVR staff on top form

The timetable had lots of slack, particularly at Arley for most trains. Unfortunately it was needed with issues at Hampton Loade causing delays during the daytime and then problems on friday and saturday evening with water supplies leading to futher delays.

I'll definitely miss the old girl when she goes out of ticket shortly. Hopefully she won't be out of ticket too long though.

Can anyone say when 53809 will be back in steam (I saw her inside the shed at Butterley a few weeks ago)?

    Evening all,

Spent a couple of days at an unfortunately drizzly event on Friday and Saturday. The event largely went well, although the mystery problems with 4566 which resulted in the Friday morning shuttle to Highley being caped weren't the best. Otherwise, top event. I have to say I was very impressed with the Engine House, a really well-designed location.

Whilst that is true 88 handled its heavy 8 for 279 tons tare better than 73129 with its light 8 of 253 tons tare and 88 gained time on all sections due to vigorous handling. Not that the Caprotti 5 was bad because it wasn't and did the job well.

Quite. I failed abysmally to take a picture of it as it went through country park halt this morning, It must have been going right up to the limit, presumably the crew were hoping no one wanted to get on!

I must stress that 88 did it by very good starts being worked hard up to the maximum speed allowed and not by exceeding the overall 25 mph limit. Truly a great engine with a good footplate crew. Hope they read this. Its not all about thrashing along the main line.

Of course, I know, and we all know that steam loco speedometers can often be up to 10mph "out" Hehe :D
