Whilst, with 7 coach trains the loco stops on the bridge, I don't think it would be too much of a problem with stopping slightly earlier. The constraint is the location of the trap points at the north end of the station. Trains can't stop with any vehicles on or near the traps. Allowance also needs to be made for setting back.

 

Another one of those urban myths.
We sent our axle boxes to Swindon many years ago. They came back and we had to get them done again. So much for Swindon engineering excellence.

 

Thanks. Sadly no Esk Valley trains on the Sunday though - the day I arrive with my good lady for a short holiday.

 

Grosmont-Whitby available on Sunday just no runs through to Battersby. If I remember this is due to a change in the Northern Spirit timetable. Sunday lunch of Whitby fish and chips still possible.

 

I run a chippy so that would be "coals to Newcastle." we'll be doing WHITBY on either Monday or Tuesday anyway.

 

More likely Swindon just bodged them on purpose because they couldn't work with such badly engineered components from 'other' loco's...!

 

It must have been moved without me noticing! I can remember using it as a shower on one of my early stops in the Goathland sleeping car.

 

Reminds me of a happy week in 1970 with a couple of friends, after university exams, spent at Goathland in a sleeping car while working on a Hull and Barnsley Rly coach.

I'm sorry but Bristol born and living in the west country most of my life, the myth maybe untrue, who can tell for sure but I will continue to believe it. Oh! pass me my rose tinted glasses.

 

Its not an urban myth (in GWR & BR(W)) days to say that locos were built & out shopped to tighter tolerances than other railways/regions. Unfortunately the now closed preservation era workshop at Swindon did not always continue to operate to these high standards.

 

In order to dispel a myth, you need factual proof. Do you have this?

 

Any news on the loco diagrams please?

 

Not been finalised, yet. Hoped for on Monday, long with crew diagrams.

 

All I will say is enjoy your Gala, I do think they will be a few West Somerset guys up with you so the NYMR can show'em how it'done. I know I had a good time in May with you, just a bit short on steam locos but I bet there were many diesel fans.

Seen a photo of 5029 onsite. What's the latest with diagrams?

 

Dunno. They're not available for footplate crews yet. It is only Tuesday, though. The element of surprise always makes things more intriguing.

 

Hoping for a ride behind 5029 on Friday, not sure whether to head for Pickering or Grosmont, is Whitby to Battersby an option for the castle......?

 

Would be nice to know what the plans are for the three GWR locos

Hoping to spend two days riding but as you say which end of the line etc
