Best bet is a Saturday, if the gates at the bottom of the car park are shut then enquire at the station but tell them who you are, of the main gates are open then feel free to wonder round.

    To add to Olly's comments.

An AVR party was welcomed on a visit early this year. At short notice, it was accompanied on a visit to the MPD. On a general note it helps if the railway has reasonable notice of organised groups so it can make arrangements :)

Care to share this tip? I repainted a plywood BR Shocvan a couple of years ago and the paint on one side has already cracked badly, the van hasn't run in that time (awaiting door repairs) and with materials to finish it now to hand I am considering another rub down and repaint.

I can't guarantee this will help as we haven't tried it on a plywood van yet, but the advice was mix a slug of varnish in with the top coat of paint, not varnish over the top but mix it with the paint.

Thanks, I will give that a try (although the varnish I have is reserved for something else, so it really will have to be done sparingly!)

Its been a busy time in the down yard at Bewdley, firstly, with Gala approaching, the goods train has had the usual TLC to get it ready. Hopefully a lot of you will be coming to see it in action.
60906 is ready to go back into service and should be back the other side of the fence by Gala weekend, and something else filling the space instead.
The Cadbury van has been receiving a fair bit of public interest and positive comments, she's not quite ready but she isn't far away, while inside the shed, work has progressed on the Gun Powder Van, with the body filler fairy being busy and also the damaged door from the river side receiving some much needed TLC along with rectifying a minor irritation of making the other door from that side close properly.
Progress on 13154s brake gear is slowly being chipped away at, this is a bit of a back burner job right now, but the plan is that by the time the wagon gets stopped we will have a new set of bits ready to go on, with the work just being a simple (?) swap.
Two points of possible interest to our readers -
Firstly, some of the lads are hoping to be about on the Saturday of gala, and hopefully the yard will be open to look around, please come say hello, and if you are feeling flush, help our shoestring budget by sticking a few shillings in the collecting tin.
Secondly, the goods will be out doing some guards training again after gala, with it operating between Kidderminster and Bewdley on October 11th and 12th, and the full line (Hopefully) on the 25th and 26th, at this time I do not have details of timings, and the traction could be anything from 4566 to the Toothpaste liveried 50, and while this train won't be open to the public, there will be a normal service running, so please feel free to come along, take photos, or view us in action from the passenger trains. It would be nice to see people turn out to see us in action, and more so, to hear from them.
    Enjoy the Gala
    Olly

Tried that yesterday down at the MHR on a Palvan that's having an all round repaint - will be using it as a testbed to see how things go!

Hi Olly, I'd be interested to know your different approach intended for the paint of ply bodied vans...? Seeing as we also have a few on our 'to do' list...

Edit... Ignore this - all the answers just popped up, it seems the thread hadn't loaded properly when I posted!

We are just in the process of testing it too on the next project, I would be interested to hear how different people get on.

Can I ask what size "dollop" you used?

As I divvied up a 2.5lt pot between 3 into kettles and then added what I thought was about right - circa a couple of tablespoons........ It'll be interesting to see how our testbed goes, as the 2nd coat should've gone on today - wont really know until sometime next year!

Well, good luck when you do! :)

You've seen how I've done it - how right it is remains to be seen..... one thing I found was, depending how far into the mix you are, the paint seems to start pulling - whether that was due to the heat retained in the wood, or the varnish going off or a combination of both - I don't know...... as unlike you we don't have any covered acommodation.

Totally off topic - are you around Saturday, as I should be up for the gala, and it would be nice to meet.

    Err, the truth......................................

    ....................... is I don't actually know!

Things conspired against me yesterday, so I got there later than planned....... then the TT started slipping, and by the time I caught up with 4566, you'd gone!

That said, it would've been nice to meet and have a chat, still I suppose there's always a next time lol! :)
