By definition with only 52 weekends in a year it's pretty much impossible to arrange an event that doesn't clash with something elsewhere.

But when would be better? Too many special events close together puts strain on staffing levels. August also is usually busy anyway as it's the main school holidays. It's unfortunate that it clashes with another.

Not sure which thread to put this in, but does anyone know how long all of the non-home fleet steam locos currently onsite for the ASG will be staying for? As I'd love to have a ride behind some of them but didn't have achance at the gala, being the slimey freeloader I am :)

43924 has to be back at K&WVR for photo charters early October.
30053 is Staying until Mid October since it is booked for a photo charter.
88 is due to appear on the last day of the WSR Gala 5/10 I think ( need to check WSR website).

Perfect, thanks very much. Looks like if I'm lucky I might be able to get 88, but none of the others, which isn't the end of the world, 30053 I've seen before and you never know GWSR might have its own 4F within a year or two. Fingers crossed for the 7F then :D

From the WSR website "In addition the SDJR 7F number 88 will make its final Gala appearance before heavy overhaul at the head of one train on Saturday 4th and one on Sunday 5th."

Thanks Paul, you made me read your original post again, in my mind I decided that the 10th month was November, had a bit of a brain meltdown there. Oh well then, I'm sure I'll bump into it one day :)

  9. There is never an easy answer to this problem. I am sure they look at the timetable of events but we do have a lot of preserved railways, thankfully, and so there are a lot of revenue earning events to fit into a short period. I do sympathise will all, both railways and those of us who wish to attend. However in reality it would need a miracle of time to satisfy us all. Well done the railways and if we don't catch you this time we shall the next. I did have a very good visit to the SVR earlier this year and will publish the pictures over the autumn on:

There are other locos which have been out of traffic longer than 46443. At least it's tucked up inside unlike some locos on some other lines atm (I think I'm right in thinking there currently are no locos on the SVR which are out of traffic and aren't being actively worked on not under cover).

Im not being critical I just wondered whats happening to one of my favorite locos, whenever I think of my favorite railway I always think of sixty four forty three. Its always been a constant in my life, its seen off about 4 girlfriends!

5764 is in the carriage shed, 5164 Barrow Hill and 7819 Swindon.

The only exception is I think the Waterman Trust's engine which is stored in the open, with work stopped

That's where I thought they all were. And ah, of course 6634...sad case. Hopefully we'll hear some news on it sometime.

I think we may see 82045 steam before 6634.

The SVR website reports that contracts have now been signed for the construction of the SVR's diesel maintenance depot at Kidderminster. The site has been cleared and some preparatory work undertaken, so hopefully the New Year will see construction commence. This project has been a long time coming, but is expected to be complete by the Summer of 2015.
