Small piece about it in the latest SR. The tender & cab are in the later BR black, the rest of the loco is still in undercoat/primer. States that it needs a few more top coats of paint & a varnish.

43924 ran on it's first public passenger train today, looked and sounded well paired with the Ivatt :)

Midland 4Fs were RHD as built, LMS LHD but they had the same type of G7S bioler which got swapped around so some LMS built engines became RHD, some Midland engines became LHD.

I have no evidence to prove or disprove that (except obviously the surviving locos) but surely the relocation of the reverser, weighshaft, cylinder cock levers etc would be a lot more time consuming & costly than simply altering the regulator valve, rod & handle? - once a RHD loco always a RHD loco?

Page 32 "LMS Locomotive Profiles 4F 0-6-0s" photo of loco No 4049 brand new with RH drive. Text states that it was one of the first batch of RH drive LMS built locos. Further reading states that whether they were RH or LH drive locos was dependant on when they were built. Got the number details. Originally 4027-4206 and 4302-4311 were RH drive, the rest were LH drive.

43924 hauled it's first solo train today. Departing Keighley with the 13.15, the train ran parallel with 3F 47279 up the headshunt to celebrate the occasion.

Video to follow on the KWVR YouTube page.

Visited the K&WVR last Saturday (out of the blue) and was pleased to find the 4F working the trains that day, which was the loco I'd have picked to have running had I had such power!

I must say it's a credit to the team who resurrected the engine after so many years out of traffic. I have a soft spot for 4F's but before last weekend had only seen 44422 in steam.

Perhaps 43924 will operate alongside 44422 and/or 44027/44123 during its current ticket?

Could anyone tell me why it carries an LMS plate even tho it was built in 1920? Many thanks Matt

LMS standardization I suppose. IIRC one, if not both, of the L&Y pugs has an LMS bulders plate. Think the Knotty tank has one as well. Ray.

I noticed in the 46447 thread, it too has an LMS plate (though only painted "M") but was built in 1950..
Given the attention to detail these guys have gone too, I'm guessing it's not a mistake.

so I guess practice continued beyond the LMS too..

Having got the original tender plate from the previous loco, 46446, at home, I can assure you it is not a mistake. It would be interesting to know what the tender plates on the LMS built Ivatt 2s, 6400-19, were like.

While not steam, 11099 on the SVR carries an LMS build plate but was built by BR (I can't remember the date off hand but I think it's 1949 or 1950). Interesting that 46447 has an LMS plate, 46443's plate is a BR one.

The only difference between 46443's tender plate and 46447's is the number, 7043 instead of 7047. Both are B.R. plates.
