Makes perfect sense under the circumstances.

Clearly not much optimism that this is going to get sorted any time soon.

So will this be going over Shap too just like the Cumbrian Mountain Express (RTC) scheduled for the same day October 4?

Our day will start with the train being diesel hauled from Hellifield station to pick passengers up at Bentham & Wennington.
After picking up more passengers at Carnforth steam will then take over as we go through Preston Blackburn & Clitheroe as we take the scenic route over the S & C. Dining passengers will be served a full English breakfast and a light lunch on the outbound journey with an Evening Meal on the return.
After a break of approx. 3 hours in Carlisle we will return over the Settle Carlisle to Hellifield then onwards down the branch line in order that passengers can alight at Bentham, Wennington & finally Carnforth

The times on UK steam indicate 46115 doing the Hellifield -Carnforth leg as well. Can anybody verify please?

RTT shows 95mph path from Hellifield, so looks like 47/57 to start with. But 18 minutes at Carnforth is very tight for a loco change, but just about ok for a water stop.

I wonder why 46115 is on the "easy train" and 45699 on the CME over Shap? Seems the wrong way around to me.

I have been told it is 45699 on the Lune rivers from a reliable source and 46115 on the CME so we shall see what appears on Saturday morning .

Given what the crews said about Galatea on the Lowlander, it would make absolute sense to use SG on the CME. Cold engine northbound out of Carnforth and all that.

On Lune rivers hoping for Galatea. Train starts from but not picking up at Hellifield per letter that arrived yesterday. So I can drive past it to Bentham...
