Yeah, but I bet the 73s won't be "saving water" on the return from SP to Kingscote!

I wouldn't be too sure, they have a habit of cooking themselves when running on diesel away from the third rail!

I think the greatest disappointment in the world of art and satirical humour is the fact Hogarth never lived during the times of the railway.

Fortunately HM Bateman was around - here he illustrates the problems faced by passengers of using Mk 2 stock on a charter on a railway where the staff are more accustomed to non-corridor compartment stock ...

Great, were you firing 30847 on this train too Tom? If so, it's just your hands showing so I can't see if you've got your hat on!

30847 on a freight approaching Woking from Guildford on 1st June 1963. Amazing I got a photo, (just the one), of that loco all those years back. Must go to the Bluebell to see it again. :)

I had more hair in those days! Well actually that's not true, but we won't go into the gory details...

Interesting photo - she has a six-wheel tender, which she only got for about the last year or so of her BR-era existence, following a transfer from the Western to the Central section. She has one of the huge long double-bogie jobs now. When you climb down to uncouple between the tender and train, you don't say to the driver "going in", you say "I'm going outside, I may be some time!"
