A short film from the Sunday. Muggins forgot his tripod but thankfully Youtube has taken out most of the unwanted camera movement.

    Hello all,
Pictures here from the NYMR Gala where the Western Region made efforts to represent all that was good about Swindons design and thinking.

To be fair, thats and awful lot to think and talk about. Engines like the 28xx and the Castle were renown for being reliable and powerful. Nunny Castle put in some impressive performances on the NYMR metals. Its a shame such an engine like the Castle is not resident as its power if not its looks certainly felt right at home. However, Western pedigree being what it is, the Castle looked resplendent taking change of the various rosters asked of it.

The 28xx again proved powerful, making light work of the loads it was employed with and the light rail order 25mph speed limit being something it can handle with nonchalance rather than effort.

Pictures show the Western engines at work, while Hawksworth Pannier 1501 was found at the shed, a shame as it working would have been a personal highlight like that of the Castle.

    Enjoy,

Just back from a tour of the North and Scotland. I had a day on NYMR gala on the Saturday. It was superb - I really came for the B1, a loco that I've always admired from the time it was on the Jacobite workings, but it was all great. The little 0-6-2T no. 29 was banking the o9.31 out of Grosmont, and hanging out of the back window as she blasted up the bank was almost better than sex! Coming back to Grosmont, I saw that the B1 was working instead of the planned Black 5, so I changed plan and happily paid the excess to have a ride up to Battersby. Back at Grosmont again, I enjoyed seeing 63395 at work. Indeed, the home fleet was perfectly good enough for me, although a ride behind the Castle was not to be missed.

    A great show.

I should tell you that when the e-mail came informing me of this post, I was sitting next to No.29's "daddy", who also happened to be driving on the occasion you describe. I showed him the post and, after an initial question of "who wrote that" (presumably intending to ensure your intentions in respect of No.29 were honourable!), he gave a satisfied smile and muttered something about "nearly as better than sex, eh....", so I think it may have been as good for the crew as it was for the passengers!!!!

Hi there, must say that all GWR locos look good wherever they are, in my opinion and most of the time perform reliably. Although last time I saw Nunney on the WSR it did fail I believe, a lubricator I think. To get the definitive opinion on Kings and Castles best speak to Driver Chris Cubit and he will tell you something about them floating.
    Regards Paul
