34070 arrived at Richborough quite some time before it came part of the Southern Loocmotives fleet.

Don't think I've seen Dinting mentioned yet.

The Ashburton end of the south Devon railway closed due to A38 development.

Yes, my first sight of and 'run' behind No 9 was in 1969 on that three quarters of a mile line from Lochty to Knights Ward. Thank goodness that this was only a temporary home for UoSA. Now she is where she belongs.

I thought it was Ashchurch where 6201 restoration was at least started and Im sure 7812 was the same, and didnt the GWS have a place at Dowty? Their 56 tank was restored there? Or is this the same place and I've managed to separate the 2?

The two were the same place, good recall.I think that 7808 went there originally.

I believe your right there, I do recall reading that 7812's restoration was started there before it went to the SVR, theres a photo in a book I have of 6201 being 'towed' by a Hymek from there to Tyseley.

The first restoration of the Maunsell Q class 541 started at Ashchurch, before being completed at Sheffield Park. The reason for the move so I recall was upgrading of the Bristol - Birmingham line meant there was a risk that the stock there would become permanently cut off.

Wasn't there a 15 inch gauge line based at Combpyne on the Lyme Regis branch which assembled some stock and track in the early 70's but never got as far as opening?

IIRC Dursley was a (private?) 2' gauge set up. When it was sold off a year or two back the ex British Aluminium 0-4-2T went to Statfold Barn and was restored to original saddle tank configuration. I think there's a thread in the NG section somewhere. Wasn't 6697 (and maybe the Cadbury tank) at Dowty's (Ashchurch) as well? Ray.

    That was Durley.

Didn't realise there was a preservation attempt at Ashchurch, what happened?

The Dowty Company at Ashchurch (makers of hydraulic seals, mining equipment, aircraft undercarriages and many other things) had an active railway society formed by some of its employees and gave them space on their private sidings. Amongst locos once based there were 6201, 7808, 6697, 7812, 30541, Cadbury No1 and a collection of NG equipment.
Changes in the business, the rail access and other factors meant that all the stock gradually moved away to other locations such as Didcot, Toddington, SVR etc.

Not entirely sure if this is viable for this thread, but there were grand schemes to build a heritage railway on the Mold Denbigh line. They got as far as moving a few items of stock in at Bodfari. Most stuff has since moved apart from this: http://preserved.railcar.co.uk/Denbigh.html
