Timings now on RTT for this one. Wonder if Cromwell will be fixed in time to haul it.

Like the route. This will be new for me, not filmed one on the Bishops Stortford line before.

Yes - a nice route. Sadly RTT doesn't suggest that the diesel that takes the train down to Newbury is staying in the London area so I guess it is needed for the movements at Ely.

Despite the fact that 70013 will take a diesel to Ely for the shunt move, I will be on this trip. Nothing of note expected apart from the unusual outward route that goes up the Liverpool Street to Cambridge main line after joining it from Stratford at Copper Mill Junction. With Liverpool Street not currently in favour for steam, it seems, it's a while since steam has been this way.

Until recently, tours to Ely have continued to March, dropped the stock off in the loop there, then the steam loco has gone and turned round the triangle. For some reason, putting the stock in the loop at Ely seems to be the preferred option these days, even if it means using a diesel. The only reason I can see is to save water for the run to March, but that wouldn't use a lot of water anyway.

So Ollie is staying at Ely, and the stock and diesel is going to March? Where does Ollie get to turn round in Ely?

    Edit

On re reading this, the stock is staying at Ely, and ollie is off to turn at March?

Although on this one last December, which I was on,http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t13/t1212b.htm,the stock was left at Ely while the locos went to March to turn but no diesel was involved (maybe because it was double-headed?)

Nice run to Cambridge. 72 through Newport. Load of 10 allowed Cl 47 to be tugged along with no hindrance.

Here she is on departure from Twyford, doing what she does best, lots of noise and lots of steam :)

Plus a bit of "bonus footage" from June's "East Riding" railtour.

Re the diesel. The speeds on the climb up to Elsenham seemed consistent with a Brit working hard with 13 or so on
And that's what we had. But what do I know?
