Wouldn't be much of an event, its only a small fire.

The guy was a complete arrse and I told him so. There was plenty of time to get pics once the watering was complete and they went back on to the platform out of sight.

Very enjoyable day on the Brentford branch. Not the longest steam run I've ever done but sheer quality nonetheless. Here's some shots from the day - video to follow when edited.

Just the one photo from the scenic delights of Southall. A good morning out, home in time for lunch, can't complain! Interesting to see they were running half hourly trips on Sunday as well, I thought that was for Saturday only.

Not half hourly trips as such. The 10:00 and 11:00 ran as advertised then the 12:00 became the 11:45 with a 12:20 extra slotted in before the 13:00 and 14:30 ran as advertised. Then there was an extra at 15:10 (or the 15:30 was retimed). No idea what happened after that as we went for a beer after filming the 15:10 on its way back from Brentford.

Thanks Ian. We saw the 10.00 depart, travelled on the 11.00, then saw the 12.00 depart 10 minutes early, followed by another trip at 12.20, so assumed it was a half hourly service, the same as Saturday.

In reality this lack of inclusivity is something that the whole heritage railway movement is going to have to get to grips with, and quite soon.

Sadly there are no easy answers to making this happen.

It got a bit confusing. We were booked on the 13:00 but with changes obviously being made as things went along, we arrived at Southall early and were offered places on the 12:20 "extra" so we took those. Great fun as it was possible to ride and chase, if chase is the word when the road traffic in Southall is taken into consideration. :) I look forward to more branch line excursions with no.93.

You cannot make people interested in something just for the sake of it. Railways as heritage, preserved or otherwise, full sized or models, are open to all. They either interest you or they do not. A simple example; you could give me an all expenses paid ticket to see the World Cup football final and I simply just would not use it. The event for me holds no attraction but I will readily and would rather spend my own money to discover a newly restored locomotive of unusual design. One man's cultural meat is very much another man's cultural poison something either resonates with what you see as being part of your culture and identity or it does not.

You are right, of course. Looking at the visitors to our railway, they are quite a mixed bunch so hopefully interest in visiting will be followed by interest in helping. It'll just take some time.

So the start has to be to excite people's interest. To that end it was a pity that 93 hid behind the steps between trips rather than staying visible from the main part of the station.

PS - I'm not into World Cups either!

I think it's a two way thing, I noticed a lot of the local community sneaking selfies on their camera's of the rail motor whilst waiting for trains this weekend.
I'm sure if dialogue was there, it would have happened.
But the issue is bi-directional, a Sri Lankan friend of mine is fascinated in trains and asks about how to get involved, but is a little intimidated at joining in, to find himself being the odd one out.
Engines like a Turkish 8F or Polish TKH could be good catalysts to getting local international heritage communities involved.
