MHR Autumn Steam Gala 2014.

I guess the savings of the Manor not attending have been offset by the costs of the support coach for Nunney.. so I guess overall it's still cheaper than it would have been! - same gala, same price.

 

Insomuch as you can trust the foreward weather forecast, it looks like a decent weekend coming up, and even Friday not too bad by the look of it.

 

Mine still showing Friday as wet, but not as bad as yesterday's forecast...


Lots of shunting going on yesterday and this morning at alresford...now have rake consisting of "Watercress Belle" minus BG plus maroon Brake + Mk1 Pullman, so chocolate and cream on either end with a maroon coach sandwiched in towards the back (heading for London)
Autocoach now in the platform .

 

Saturday morning looked quite reasonable last time I checked. Looking at the rosters, it could be a good day for photting in the morning and then travelling in the afternoon. Please can someone clarify:- does a gala ticket include travel on the auto train or is a supplement required for this?

 

The weather seems to be looking more promising for Friday now with rain only showing for early morning.

 

I'll wait until tomorrow before deciding about Friday!

1450 was on test runs today at Northside lane.

After seeing 1450 running between Alresford and Ropley and back again a few times today. I think it's the star loco at the gala for me. It's just a lovely looking loco and looks right at home running between Alresford and Ropley with the auto coach. Don't get me wrong. The other visiting loco's are great visiting loco's and very pleasing to the eye and I'm sure they will put a good performance in over the gala.

 

I think Nunney Castle will be the star of the gala, for me the Castles are the best looking locomotives around Brilliant photo 73129 I doubt anyone will get a better photo of the 14xx all weekend

The star of the event: for me it's between 1450 and 5029. 6960 should be pretty good too.

4270 will no doubt gain a few more fan club members while she is on a Railway with some decent grades to make her bark!
Tomorrow we are planning to catch the 10.05 from Alresford at Ropley which is hauled by 5029 and returns from Alton with 4270 in charge so it will be interesting to compare the decibels as I already know from previous ML experience that 5029 is a loud loco
Looks like Friday is the day for getting the miles in behind the four visitors as it looks like it's going to be wet. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

 

Given the weather report for tomorrow, it definitely looks like a day for riding the trains, rather than linesiding........... just hope the wet stuff doesn't dent the attendance!

Green Five, I look forward to seeing what you think of the 42xx....... she's got quite a bark, but the GWSR hasn't the bumps we do & I know from chatting with the lads responsible, they're looking forward to see what she can do this weekend!

 

I will let you know how 4270 performs . Be interesting to compare her with 5224 which was a MHR resident for a while. Will 5224 return to the MHR? I heard she was very popular and Pete Waterman was very pleased with how the MHR looked after her.
