Letter with tickets say it will be an 11 coach train. Should be a good fast run. Hope nothing "extra" is needed to do the shunting at Appleby.

In the past it's just been a matter of all passengers off, then setting back into the siding for service etc. Just looked at my records, Duke of Gloucester, on The Dalesman, 3rd August 2005, was the last time I was on a tour that did that.

True, we were on that train, and quite a few since when steam was allowed to propel the train back into the sidings. Just remember RTC's train manager saying that the reason for not running weekday CME's this year was that they would need a diesel to do the shunting at Appleby. Might have got that wrong.

I seem to remember being on one with 46233 doing the same thing, but the date escapes me, but find the comment about needing the diesel to assist strange, steam often propels the stock into the neck to the south of the station on the Hexam line, or the loops to the west of the platforms at Carlisle.

This looks like a good one. Shame I'm not "oop North" at present or I may have come off the Scottish moors and gone on it.

I'll be watching it via RTT on Saturday. :)

Just noticed on RTT, that the tour will be stuck behind a freight all the way to Carnforth. Hopefully the freight won't run. Planned to go to Hartford, and timings for there, place the tour 2 minutes behind.

    2 early off Carnforth.

Hope we have a Nat Pres rep on board!

    Nice one. No, nice two!

Seeing that other train which could have ruined your shot but didn't. We have debated diesels on the back of main line steam trains a couple of times here on Nat Pres. :).

But I've never seen a debate about cancelling all service trains that could ruin shots being taken by linesiders of steam? About time we confronted that menace to good steam photography.

    ;)

I've videoed at Hartford a couple of times and have had the same problem, but you got away with that, especially having the second camera....

I knew there was a risk involved this morning, but I fancied seeing the Duchess at speed. So, the 140 mile round trip, was worth it I thought !

Hartford or Acton Bridge seems a good bet, Winsford's station is two small and it's right next to the slow line entrance/exit.

Yes Winsford can be disappointing with northbound as a pendolino usually leaves Crewe a few minutes after the steam, steam is therefore on the slow so the driver does not rush as he would only have to stop before Winsford, by Acton Bridge they are moving briskly and you get plenty of warning of the approach a you can see all the way to Hartford.

Plenty of 47 "shovage" at Angerholme by the sound of it. Nice video nonetheless.

. My thoughts exactly about the 47 pushing at Angerholme as I can't see why it was helping . Thanks for the kind comment .

I'm sure the load was well within the capabilities of a Duchess. Your films are always well filmed and well put together.
