    Thanks Liam, no Mrs ACW and I just went to Whalley as it looked as though there may be a decent sunset. Pam has a better shot here;

It looked strange to see a section of Network Rail with a row of trackside telegraph poles.

There's a weird effect about the 2 minute point on that video, at least as displayed on my 'pooter. Anyone else see an electrification mast bending to and fro? It's presumably due to inadequacies of the compression algorithm.

    RE: post #29
Looks like image stabilisation - gone wrong.
I note in the description on YT that the camera got blown about, did sgthompson then get YT's "your video is shakey" and their offer to correct it?
People of the world, do not let YT mess with your video, man can they screw it up! :(

Nice vid other than the jelly wobbles, always enjoy those from the North. I get jealous of the wide, treeless locations you have.

YT "correction" gone wrong seems more plausible than my thought about compression. Thanks for that.

Steve, the stabilisation, only works on distant shots. Otherwise, it looks like the train has come off the rails !

Whilst the main subject of this contribution is off topic, I thought I would give access to some photos of the Duchess departing Crewe yesterday

So. Farewell Then Pretendolino 25 October 2014

This day out from Crewe began with a bonus: the departure of Stanier Pacific No 46233 Duchess of Sutherland for an assault on Shap.

The main purpose though was to ride the spare Virgin Mark III set, known as the Pretendolino, on its final service, a tour of North Wales called the Welsh Warrior, in aid of theBritish Legion Poppy Appeal.

My Mark III first class carriage had the big comfortable seats, the wonderful matching windows and updated Virgin upholstery. Underneath however it was worn out, internal doors not working, couplings screeching and grinding, different from the thoroughly refurbished Mark IIIs elsewhere which are still the finest British carriages ever. And the boiler packed up after the first cup of coffee, so fruit juice and a fry-up with no toast or pastries was all we got for the rest of the morning.

However, we had a pleasant ride through Cheshire, with our two 37s taking us on the scenic route to Chester via Sandbach, Middlewich and Delamere , then along the North Wales coast to Holyhead, where the sun was blazing and we saw another rake of Mark IIIs on the WAG train. The return run was a smoother and faster ride with the Class 57 leading, but I had to bail out mid afternoon at Llandudno Junction and head home. At Crewe I found the remaining bits of the Pretendolino in a siding, at the end of an era.

    So. Farewell Then Pretendolino

    Never really a Virgin
But my friend Keith enjoyed the ride
    And so did his Mum

A little late and just a record of 6233 drifting through Acton Bridge after being signalled into the loop. The following train was several minutes behind nad as as 6233 was a couple of minutes early what a pity she was not given the chance to get to Winsford before being put on the slow...
