That's good news and it just triggers today's trivia question. 41312 and 41313 are two heritage locomotives that are in service currently with consecutive numbers. Are there any others?

What a turn around for the 'forgotten' Ivatts!

    In answer to the trivia.....
7827 'Lydham Manor' & 7828 'Odney (Norton) Manor' Immediately spring to mind along with 5541/5542. 78018/78019 potentially in the not too distant future perhaps?

Does the two sets of clan frames count ? 72010 and 72010 ?

How about the 8f's in Turkey ? 45160/1 45165/6 ? - could also be Wd340/1 (45166/8) or if they were allocated numbers as imported in the UK we'd have a 48776/7/8 :)

WD 2-10-0 numbers 3651/2 exist, and we've seen a WD600/1 but in greek numbers we'd have Λβ960/1/2 (960 being 3672 in the UK). (in Greece 7x WD 2-10-0 still exist numbers: 73656/674/677/682/684/699 as OSE class numbers Λβ955/58/61/62/64/66), all but 2 are dumped.

    WD 0-6-0st's
    WD190,1,2,3,4 & WD 196,7,8 & 71515/6

Impressive....but I think you probably need to get out more.

Back on track, I have to say I really like the Ivatts. The fireman friendly features (e.g. rocking grate) were pretty unusual on a loco of that type. They popped up everywhere and were pretty reliable and effective, in my view.

    in LT numbers panniers L89/90 & L94/5 survive :)

LMS/LNER overall didn't fare too well in the consecutive number stakes from what I can see, I guess that's the Barry factor.

the largest set of consecutive numbers appears to be WD J94s... apart from WD 195, there would be a full house from WD190-199, what happened to WD 195 ? from what I see it was a Longmoor one and even ran a railtour on the mainline in 1966....

ok done.. open to correction, i'm sure I've missed at least one :) lying down the challenge.. which one did I miss ?

Perhaps (because I am sure we have done this before) we should do a variation: greatest difference in number between two preserved locos of the same class (while using the same numbering scheme - no cheating by saying "Stroudley Terriers 40 and 32678!").

I offer Wainwright P class 27 and 753 (=726 difference). Any advances on that?
