Ben - a technical question. Lat time I saw Bittern it had a coridor tender with a buckeye. Do you use the buckeye on the mainline, it has been sugested you dont. The buckeye was used on the SVR.

Pretty sure we used the buckeye between the tender and support coach, but I will confirm in the morning. If not, I will ask the question. :)

Was it a wave or something more gesticulatory? ;) I am sure Bill would never do anything like that.

PS - looking at the photo, wouldn't you have been seeing the fireman, not the driver?

Did it have a repaint en route or is this the strange light you are referring to?

Thank you for posting that picture. I was visiting the Severn Valley last Saturday and took a picture of No. 1501 from a spot where there was some shadow on the track from the branches of leafless trees. I wasn't sure how well it would turn out, but seeing your picture has given me hope that mine will look good too. (To anticipate the obvious, I'm sure that someone will make the point that a picture of a BR(W) pannier tank cannot possibly look as good as one of an A4!)

If you have it, a bit of tweaking with the shadows/highlights tool on photo editing software can work wonders in that situation.
