I'm in town tomorrow so I'm going to wander round to look at it.

Not sure I can link Paddington Bear going on a Light Engine move to Reading and back.. :)

Apparently arrives Plat 8, and then a HST arrives from OC in front of it, the LE follows the HST out (1245) 2 minutes after at 1247.

The return, the LE arrives platform 6.. (the HEX platform), and a HEX arrives 10 mins later, the HEX departs 1455 and the LE just after...

As for steam at Southall... Bittern and the SRM.. I'll be impressed if it's Didcots railmotor :), given the lack of any turning, I'm not sure it's steam but with 1hr on the slow out, and 30 mins on the fast return.. maybe steam without POB and turning ? shrug shoulders, I dunno.

I could be mistaken but I recall reading that Zero-Q paths are driver training paths?

If there's an HST due into the same platform as this locomotive, it could be used for coupling exercises at Paddington? The run to/from Reading acts as route learning?

According to this months steam railway "its very fuel efficient" perhaps it's a top gear performance test :) driven by SteamStig. :D:D:D

this was my thought too, it's been 6 mth since the last WCRC steam from Paddington (out toward Beaconsfield), but that said Southall.... it's right in the middle of the route and it's not as if there is a shortage of LE / ECS moves that cover both directions of this route.. indeed there was an ECS yesterday and 46115 is coming from the London end today.

I might regret saying this but isn't everyone being a bit silly here? We know to ignore RTT and speed indicators. Something is running to Bristol but it won't be steam - not that is unless DBS thinks that they can suddenly run a steam locomotive from Paddington to Bristol in two and a quarter hours without taking water.

Answers on a postcard what this is...

(There's about a dozen people turned out to see it), as for the Bristol off plat 4...that's RTT at your own risk.
