Only days after having duplicates announced, we now have 2 kings proposed by Hattons/DJ and Hornby.

Interesting times, wonder who will change their choice of model first!

So its either a P class, H class or an 0415 class. Any of these beauties would get my vote, but whether I can afford them is another matter. Looking forward to my O2 class.

Hornby 2-BIL around 140 quid retail now. However; they were clearing stock direct from Margate last month for 59.50. Just shows what the mark up is and they push prices ever upwards. I have a few friends that have stopped collecting because prices are now too high for many. Buying on ebay is better but even there prices have risen a lot in the last year or so. No wonder so many model shops have closed.

Are NEM couplings a Bachmann speciality or do other companies do them too?

It's an Industry standard for European model railways..

http://www.morop.eu (owner of the NEM standard)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normen_Europäischer_Modellbahnen

    The US equivalent is NMRA..
    http://www.nmra.org

NEM couplings is not the Hook / Loop we have in the UK, it's actually the cup that usually is moulded onto the bogie of the vehicle, into which the UK style coupling slides / locks into...
This standard means pulling out the UK coupling you could substitute a European Standard or Flieschmann or Marklin coupling in their instead and without modification etc..

If your interested the actual standards relevant to the post are here (in french but the diags are self explanatory)...

    http://www.morop.eu/fr/normes/nem362_f.pdf (Full coupling)

Now if your on a saturday night shift with several hours to kill...
I can highly recommend this bed time reading..
    http://www.morop.eu/fr/normes/nem692_f.pdf (Control module for signals)
    http://www.morop.eu/fr/normes/nem603_f.pdf (Signal wiring)

I can imagine people queuing up for that reading ! - french of course.

There's more equally riveting read.. such as catenary mast distances from track, gauge and height and standards for Pantograph lift / angle/height to wire..

Dragging it back to model railway announcements...

the announcement by Oxford Diecast is great, probably out of my price bracket but the fact that it will exist still interests me, and that they say they already have other announcements lined up is exciting too, if it carries on on a similar vein; sweeping up the most popular models yet to be produced. I wouldn't be surprised if this announcement hasn't upset one of the bigger manufacturers, the Adams radial has long been one of the top locos in the polls.

The bespoke market is probably going to grow a bit in Hong Kong, the combined effect of massive price rises (will shrink production) and the layoff of so many Sanda Kan staff by Kader will set up a cottage industry of manufacturers in Hong Kong suited to the niche model market... not cheap but allows smaller retailers to fill the gaps..
