On Sat 26th and Sun 27th July the East Somerset Railway will celebrate 40 years since the first passenger operations commenced with an intensive gala.

As part of the celebrations every working locomotive will be in use throughout the weekend. Locomotives are, as ever, all subject to availability.

Diminutive Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST 1719 'Lady Nan' will be making her annual foray out from the shed yard to shunt trains at Cranmore Station. This small engine working hard to move carriages and wagons is truly a sight to behold.

Brakevan rides will be available on the goods trains at no extra charge, on a first come, first served basis. These brakevan rides are extremely popular and there is limited capacity, so be sure to get there early.

Class 108 DMU L231 will be in action in the morning and afternoon, and available for inspection alongside Cranmore Station throughout the day.

At the workshops, Ivatt 2-6-0 46447 will be on display, come and see for yourself the impressive progress on this restoration of a Barry wreck.

Driver for a Fiver will be in operation at the engine sheds, for only £5 you can take the controls of a heritage diesel locomotive and discover what it is like to be an engine driver.

Our normal fares apply, pay once and you can ride all day!
