A few days ago 34059 was on the Bluebell's loco roster for the next two weekends, one of six locos due to take part in the line's fun weekends. Today though I see it's no longer down to run. Any idea as to the reason? My little brother wants to know!

Most recent update on the Bulleid Society site was on the 17th of last month:

"The areas of the syphon backs where the cracks have been detected have now been cut out. The edges of the cut syphons have been ground to the appropriate section for welding in the new syphon backs. It is hoped that the new sections will be tack welded in place this week."

I'm guessing then this is still the problem.

New update (dated 07/07/2010) on the Bulleid Society website showing the ongoing repair to the knuckles of 34059's thermic syphons. A photograph shows the left hand syphons patch sections tack welded in place and a start having been made on those required for the right hand syphon.

34059 has been withdrawn again for more repairs to the boiler, this time the problem area is around the firehole / firedoors. The loco is expected to be repaired in time for the Giants of Steam Gala in October.

That's unfortunate. But I'm sure the people at Sheffield Park can get her match fit for Giants.
