I was pushing for the loco to be malachite green with southern on the side of the tender but I think we will leave it in maroon for a while as this seems to be contravertial enough for now.

David, you forgot the red wheels (and smoke deflectors?).

Totally agree...the only bit of Flying Scotsman worth seeing is the deflectors...

TCDD livery was balck with red wheels!

Seen as conversation has gone this way, thought I'd post up this link (some of you will have seen these before)

    http://fictitiousliveries.fotopic.net/

Some excellent work there and some very interesting liveries plastered all over Tornado. Intercity Swallow somehow nearly works if you look at it long enough! :-#

Put some air-smoothed casing on it, and add a nice Bulleid whistle ! They painted Jubilees in Malachite, so I don't see why it would look out of place on an 8F. There's a picture of Bulleid standing next to Stanier when the first Southern example was outshopped from Ashford in H. A. V. Bulleid's Bulleid of the Southern. I would like to see it when it's finally in service, but Peak Rail's somewhat too far out of the way for someone who lives in West Wales.

48624 was operated by LMS/BR for 22 years in black. When locos were sold out of service by the larger railway companies the new owners often repainted these locos into their own livery. Surely the present owners of 48624 should be able to follow this tradition and paint the loco in any livery, if they so desire.

Agreed. However some people are reading too much into this. Just because it has a bit of red primer on at the moment does not mean it's going to be painted red! I'd imagine it's going to be yet another loco in BR black.

I can confirm that the paint is not red primer, but is actually undercoat for maroon.

    Why foiled?
We're more than happy for everyone to see the first maroon 8f taking shape.

I look forward to seeing 48624 in steam, regardless of the colour. You lads (and lasses) have worked long and hard to restore this loco, mostly in the open, it will be a credit to you all, no matter what colour.

Could not agree more, the bottom line here is better that it runs in the wrong livery for whatever reason than not to run at all.

    Regards

If it looks as good as the Beet's Ivatt does in Maroon then it will look great, nice to see people not conforming to the "Paint Froth Gang" =D> .
